Week-long Welcomings from Moosylvania: September 8th

Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.

Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).

The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.

So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?

NOTE: The comments page will split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page (right before “Leave A Reply”) and use the Pages Tool to view previous pages, shown here with 3 pages of comments available and Page 2 circled.

  1. It’s 67 heading for 85 and sunny today. Yesterday the clouds cleared off late but we at least got 9.6 KWHs and the m-t-d is 174.5 – definitely lost ground but still not bad. We’ll see what today brings.

    Yesterday the vet clinic called to say Rennie’s ashes were ready so I picked them up. As with Charlie’s they were in a beautiful cedar wooden box with metal plaque with his name on it. I buried him in the iris garden about a foot away from Charlie, between a couple of large elm tree roots. Not very deep. The ground is hard and dry. But deep enough for a small wooden box of beloved kitty ashes. Filled it back in with my hands, making sure the iris roots were put back over the space where he lies. And bless Freddie, he sat on my lap for almost half an hour – a first for him – when I said down on the rocking chair to read. I guess he figures there’s supposed to be a black cat on mom’s lap when she’s in the rocking chair and with Murf, Charlie, and Rennie all gone now, it’s up to him. Whatever the reason it was comforting to me and I hope to him.

    Got apples at the Market. Got enough I won’t have to go back again this month. Which is good. Home football games and all that. Anyway, I’d best get to my boosting. Holding the Good/Healing Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}

  2. Good morning, meeses! Saturday …

    It is 72 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 91. Sunny skies are in the forecast although it may cloud up later. We are apparently expecting the remnants of a hurricane that is hitting Baja California. Very often they don’t make it this far. We are expecting cooler weather and hope to get a hike in tomorrow morning. Monsoon season runs until September 30th but it looks like we are pretty much done.

    I wandered away to work on gathering notes for a project and forgot I had this started. It is now hotter and I need to take my walk before it heats up to where it is not comfortable.

    See all y’all later!

  3. Good Saturday morning, Meese! ‘Tis fair in Ashburn today, 69 F. at 10:30, going up to 85 F. Even the Washington Poop admitted we are in “moderate drought.” Apparently, we’ll make up our deficit by November 30. Seems a long time to wait.

    Meanwhile, back at the ranch, I’m getting an enormous urge to make an Olde Englishe Pear Pye. Just can’t help myself. I’ll have to buy the ingredients when I go out shopping later today. It calls for grated orange peel, nutmeg, dark brown sugar, pears of course, and apples, to give it “structure.”

    Was awakened this morning by thoughts of the “rant” I plan to use for our October writing assignment. Because it concerns English grammar usage, I did it in the form of a fictional TV interview between myself and the interviewer. It’s quite funny, if I do say so myself.

    Other news: It’s today the Shred truck is here, not last week. (Why do I get dates wrong? Is it because I’m old?) Anyway, I finished editing Book 1 of the trilogy, will start on Book 2 today. Next week looks so busy I’m already tired!

    Kamala seems to be doing awfully well, and the more I read about Tim Walz, the more I love that man. Simply love him! There’ll be a postcard writing party next Wednesday, so I’ll go to that.

    That’s all my news for today. Hope everyone will have a blissful Saturday!
