Week-long Welcomings from Moosylvania: September 8th

Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.

Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).

The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.

So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?

NOTE: The comments page will split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page (right before “Leave A Reply”) and use the Pages Tool to view previous pages, shown here with 3 pages of comments available and Page 2 circled.

  1. Good “morning”, Motley Meese! The week begins …

    Morning low of 72 degrees in the Desert Southwest 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 97. Sunny skies are in the forecast.

    Have a great day, all y’alls!!

    • Comment Edit is not putting up the timer. It may be because I am an Admin – or it may not work. Back to the drawing board.

  2. Good Sunday morning Meese. Nippy here, 49 degrees.

    “On TikTok, there are dozens of remix videos with the song “Jenniffer Liar” and samples with her voting cards. Platform with more than 350 thousand daily users in Puerto Rico. They have 2 times more users than Twitter X. This is what the last 24 hours look like…”

  3. Good morning. Tea is steeping, watching the news. Got the windows open for the first time since probably May, it is lovely & cool outside, 66 degrees. I might need long sleeves for my walk tomorrow morning. Today: church, finish making next week’s lunch (a sweet potato-black bean dish) and local candidate forum. I may dress for the gym so I can dash in on the way home from that.

  4. It was 48 when I got up, 58 now, heading for 78 and sunny. A lovely touch of Fall before we warm up to the mid-80s again next week. Yesterday we generated 17 KWHs and the m-t-d is at 101 so definitely on track for something good.

    Aashirs nani checked in last night. Very brief – her computer’s still not set up so she’s having to use her phone. She said that there were “upsets” on Friday (the load up, drive down, unload day) but Saturday was much better.

    Slow getting everything done this morning. Just eating my oatmeal right now. I’d best get started on my boosting. Holding the Good/Healing Thoughts for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}

  5. Good glorious September Sunday, Moosekind! What a gorgeous day! I simply had to get out for a walk around Fisherman’s Pond, where I saw a green heron amongst the reeds bordering the water, and several sunbathing turtles on the rocks. Whatever else happens or does not happen, I’ll have had a walk on this heavenly day. It was 49 F. when I woke up at just before 6, and even now it’s only 59 F. Mid-70s today, next week brings highs in the mid-eighties! Oh, pooh.

    Last night I went next door to see “To Sir with Love.” Saw it when it first came out 50-odd years ago. I was proud of myself for not crying until the end. I read the book long before it was made into a movie. Yuck, that 1960s makeup!

    Today: Memorize the play I’m in, work on the characters of the play I’m about to write, go to the gym, finish the laundry, edit some more of Book 1 of the trilogy—I’m about halfway through the thing.

    Hope everyone at the Pond is having a good day. Today would have been my friend Sybil’s 86th birthday. I miss her still. Blessed be.

  6. Good afternoon, 68 and hazy in Bellingham today. It doesn’t doesn’t smell smoky but the light is the yellow/orange color that happens with smoke particles in the air. I’ve had a quiet day so far because my legs were tired from yesterday, but now I need to do a few things. Best wishes to all.

  7. Good morning. It’s cool enough that I considered long sleeves for my walk/run (60 degrees). Managed 15 minutes running — .73mi. Getting there. Yesterday’s candidate forum left me better informed but less decided. Our current mayor is a good guy — former president of Planned Parenthood, worked on the environmental commission, good progressive man. But: did invite DPS troopers to patrol Austin — he says Gov. Abbott was going to send them anyway and this way we had more control. And the development code is a mess. There are two progressive women and one gay man who I’m trying to decide between. And then there’s the seven people running to replace my term-limited council member….

  8. Good Monday morning, Moosekind! It was 44 F. when we woke up, but will rise to 80-odd F. today. It’s another beautiful day. Need to get to the gym before I have to go to Costco to get my hearing aids cleaned.

    Drama Club Board meeting this afternoon, then full rehearsal, not just scenes, from 7 to 9 p.m. tonight. Need to work on memorizing it some more.

    Wishing a good day to all at the Pond!

  9. It was 48 when I got up, 52 now, heading for 83, and trying to be sunny. Yesterday we generated 16.78 KWHs and the m-t-d is 118. September’s looking good so far.

    Had a nice visit with my son yesterday. Things are still bad at work but have at least eased up enough he was able to go to gurdwara for the first time in 4 weeks. Although while he was here he got a text from one of his new employees saying they’d forgotten to take their BP meds, were feeling sick, and were going home early. He said that particular new employee has worked for him for 3 weeks and has left early for one reason or another every single day since they started. They of course are going to complain about how short their paycheck is come payday. Meanwhile the rest of the crew has to make up for the missing person – or Lang has to go in and do it. Depending on how dependable the rest of the shift is. sigh,

    As far as I know everybody else is OK. I had a rotten night but slept so I’m “behind my time” and had best get about my boosting day. Holding the Good/Healing Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}

  10. Good morning, 59 and cloudy. It’s good I’ve got laundry to do today because that’s about all I’ve got the mental focus for. For some reason severe election angst is keeping me awake at night and then fatigue and worry become part of my day too. So today I need to “touch grass” and stay as busy as I can. Best wishes to all.

  11. Good evening, meeses! Monday …

    I forgot to check in after a too busy morning that gave way to an (obviously) forgetful afternoon.

    See all y’all tomorrow!

  12. Tuesday Meese. 55 here in Kingston, going up to 77. Prayers lifted for my godkids and everyone in Louisiana in the path of Francine

    RIP

  13. Puerto Rico

  14. Good morning. Got my walk/run done. Made it to .75 mi — took 17 minutes, but I made it. Looking forward to the debate.

  15. Good morning, meeses! Tuesday …

    It is 72 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 99. Sunny skies are in the forecast. The windows are open and there is a nice breeze on the patio – fall is on its way! The past three nights I have seen the waxing crescent in the SSW sky and this morning all of my stars were gathered over the mountains.

    I shall send some mirror magic energy to Kamala Harris in advance of her “debate” with tRump tonight. Debate is in quotes because it will not be a debate in any ordinary sense of the word, it will be a show where the moderators from ABC try to be smart and clever and where our candidate has a chance to introduce herself to the country. tRump will be in his own little world and sadly the bar is so low that if he simply does not soil his pants, he will be declared the winner by the media. I agree with the headlines that the stakes are high – for some people, this will be the first time they see Kamala Harris speaking and in politics, first impressions are sometimes the only chance you get to make any impression. I am confident in her abilities and I hope that they shine through. As I said, I won’t watch it live but I plan to record it off C-SPAN and watch it when I have read enough about it that it won’t trigger me. I still see the hovering creepy stalking tRump from the Hillary debate in my nightmares.

    My newspaper stays that tRump will be in Tucson Thursday at the same time that Doug Emhoff will be here. The venue selected for tRump is the 2,200 seat Tucson Music Hall which is certainly not “rally size” so it is not clear why he is here. Our downtown is impossible to navigate on a normal day so I am sure that it will be a gawful mess on Thursday and thankfully I have no errands that need to be run that day. No word yet on where the Second Gentleman will be appearing. I hope it isn’t anywhere near the chaotic mess near the Music Hall. Kamala appeared at a community organization site on the west side the last time she was here. That would be a good place.

    I have to clean up my desk after a too busy morning yesterday. By the time the dust had settled, it was noon! I have my winning Mega Millions lottery ticket in hand and chose numbers instead of taking the quick pick. Sometimes the computer generated numbers just don’t look good, how can they possible be winners?!??

    See all y’all later!

  16. It’s 52 heading for 86 and sunny. Yesterday we generated 15.75 KWHs and the m-t-d is 133.8 – still on track for something good.

    Chimney inspector & chimney cleaning this morning. Hopefully I’ll be at a good breaking point when he gets here. I told them in the office that he needs to be masked. We’ll see if he is. I have spare masks if he’s not. Ahem. Not been cold enough early enough for fires yet and we’ve another warm spell later this week but it’ll be good to be ready for the 1st one this season. Holding the Good/Healing Thoughts for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}

  17. Good morning, 60 and light clouds, but the air is clearer so my itchy eyes are relieved. I have a hair cut this morning, PT this afternoon, and in between a porch cleaning time with Sue so today is busy. The porch has glass paned windows on the upper three sides so Sue will do the ladder work. The back porch is our daily entrance as well as the recycle station, baskets for shoes and produce, hanging space for bags and coats, a rack for gardening tools and dog stuff, a wood bench/ice chest, and a shelf for candles and plants. So it’s a busy small space and it needs a good edit and cleaning. I made the large fall fake flower arrangement yesterday so the season is changing on the porches and the plants and flowers distract from the daily life clutter.

    I’ll be glad when the debate is over and please, may her poll numbers increase. The nagging fear I feel from the close polls and from hearing his voice is unnerving me! Best wishes to all.

  18. Good Tuesday afternoon, Meese! Had to run around this morning doing errands, and the day got off to an awful start with a 5 a.m. wakeup. However, I’ve made up for it now.

    I’m going to make a chicken pie for dinner. I wish Dearly would let us watch the debate on C-SPAN, but if the pundits get to be too much, he can watch in the living room and I’ll watch in the bedroom.

    It’s been another glorious autumn day here, dry as a bone with faultlessly blue skies. Tomorrow the pollen count is supposed to be even worse than today. My skin is acting up, turning red on the neck and to some extent on the face because of…whatever it is. Getting old is so annoying!

    Went to rehearsal last night. The Italian speeches by Mama from Sicily are still being murdered. Mama Mia! Still, that seems to be all I have to complain about, so that’s OK. Oh, I saw a thin ghostlike slice of Moon in the sky so that made me happy.

    James Earl Jones was a wonderful actor and will be sadly missed. Wishing a good evening to all at the Pond.

    • I checked headlines after the debate then opened up my BlueSky stream after I was certain that tRump lost bigly. My favorite was a posted screen cap from Twitter of right-wing pundit Erick Erickson being ticked off that people had juiced up tRump with the “immigrants eating pets” story – not ticked at his god for repeating it but ticked off at the people who fed the lie to him! Apparently they have to manage him like a toddler or he will spread his feces on the wall.

    • Thank you for that clip. That is exactly what I wanted to see – very little of his creepy face, none of his words and goddess help us, not his voice.

      This was perfect and I hope people were listening. Her invitation to go to a tRump rally ending with this:

      I will tell you the one thing you will not hear him talk about is you. You will not hear him talk about your needs, your dreams, and your desires. And I’ll tell you, I believe you deserve a president who actually puts you first. And I pledge to you that I will.
