Week-long Welcomings from Moosylvania: September 15th

Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.

Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).

The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.

So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?

NOTE: The comments page will split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page (right before “Leave A Reply”) and use the Pages Tool to view previous pages, shown here with 3 pages of comments available and Page 2 circled.

  1. Good Saturday morning, Meese. It’s 72 F. and partly cloudy in Ashburned, on its way up to 82 F. “They” are predicting rain in a few hours and overnight—we’ll see.

What a day—I’ve already had to do a Trader Joe’s run and now I’ve got to shower and get ready for the Drama Club meeting at 1:30. I have to take attendance and do notes of the meeting because our regular “secretary” is attending a performance of “Clue,” along with other Ashby people downtown.

Had a MUCH better night’s sleep, so am feeling quite perky. Gotta run, folks! Hoping for a good day for all at the Pond, and reports are that voter turnout in Virginny was heavy for the first day of early voting. I’ve been wearing Kamala t-shirts all week and most people either smile or say, “Love your shirt.” Very few have looked grumpy.

  2. Hi. Checking in post-workout. The route in the park is, not hilly exactly, but hillier than what I’ve been doing for the past month. So I just walked. It was still really hard. 1.7 miles. I think I’ll aim lower next week. Clinging to wakefulness because Ali Velshi is having Scott Westerfeld, the author of the Pretties and Uglies series on, and I loved those books. Taught me stuff about how society sees & defines attractiveness and treats people differently based on it. I thought I’d already thought about all that stuff, having grown up a not-pretty girl, but those books showed me new things.
