Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.
Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).
The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.
So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?
…
NOTE: The comments page will split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page (right before “Leave A Reply”) and use the Pages Tool to view previous pages, shown here with 3 pages of comments available and Page 2 circled.

Wednesday Meese. 61 here in Kingston – only going up to 65. Worried about my goddaugher in GA who is going to get hit by Helene.
Puerto Rico
This is major PR news that you won’t see:
Holding your goddaughter in The Light.
Good morning, 60 and cloudy in Bellingham today. I had a PT session yesterday morning, and then needed a very long nap, and then the day was basically done. I’m going to try to take my walker to the park today with the hope some fresh air and exercise will help my grumpy election blues and increase my physical stamina. Best wishes to all.
Good afternoon, meeses! Wednesday…
It is 99 degrees in Tucson, clear skies.
Quick check-in after another too busy day; I am hoping things settle down soon.
See all y’all later!
Thursday Meese. 58 going up to 70 with rain. Keeping a close eye on Helene. My goddaughter in Waycross GA is very worried about tornado warnings.
Puerto Rico
From the sounds of it, Hurricane Helene will be the worst storm of the season. I hope your family members stay safe!
Yard sign spotted:
Good advice and sad that someone has to even remind people that decency is on the ballot. I saw a pundit wondering how on earth this election is so close when everyone knows exactly who Donald Trump is and how he governs. That there are not enough decent people turning away from racism and misogyny is discouraging. The gender gap is huge because trumpism is “boys will be boys” and white male supremacy on steroids. Ugh!
Good morning. Did my walk/run. In the office. It’s actually pleasant this morning — 67 degrees feels almost chilly.
Good morning, meeses! Thursday …
It is 75 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 100. Sunny skies are in the forecast. We are going to have a week with temperatures in the double digits again, just when we thought we were done. At least the morning lows will be nice but I will have to time my walks carefully again.
Another New York City mayor caught criming :::yawn::: Maybe New York should elect a real Democrat instead of all these Republicans and “former” Republicans. You can’t tell me that it is impossible to run a major city without being an outright criminal – allegedly of course.
Marist Poll shows dead heat in Arizona. Senate “independent” Kyrsten Sinema says Kamala Harris wanting to end the filibuster is the worst thing ever, I guess worse than her palling around with Jon Cornyn and other Senators who literally want to end womens rights in America. Meh. Senate hopeful Kari Lake was pleased and, really, Sinema being displeased will bolster Ruben Gallego’s polling numbers, not diminish them.
Goddess, the outright racial hatred towards Haitians is horrible! That the Republican Party targeted them for violence and continues to gin up anger against them should make every decent human being angry. The “dangerous Black people” card is a time honored tradition in the Republican Party which is why we can never make common cause with Republicans – the party needs to be burned to the ground and the salt thrown on the ashes to make sure nothing can come back.
I am still not done with my all-consuming project but the end is within sight. By this time next week, I should be sitting and sipping coffee and gathering post-project notes. In the meantime, back to the grindstone.
See all y’all later!
It’s 55 heading for 81 today and sunny so far. Yesterday we generated 14.4 KWHs and the m-t-d at 307.8 had surpassed our “at least” goal. The next goal is to surpass 340 – and that’s actually possible if unlikely considering tomorrow’s forecast.
Seriously concerned about my brother and his family in Monticello FL just outside of Tallahassee. All Protecting Energy is welcome.
Lousy night. Still worried about the cats not eating enough. But they are eating – the Iams at least and nibbling the kitten kibble and Purina Sensitive Systems. I’ve lost 3 cats over the last 2 years. Maybe, I hope, I’m just overreacting. I hope.
Got besan browning because baking season has started again. That’s helping to warm up the kitchen/den area. Off to start my boosting day. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
Good morning, 53 and cloudy outside my windows today. We’ve had real rain the last few days so it’s time to bring the outdoor cushions indoors and put them away when they are dry and clean. I’ll do that later today but now I need to change beds so Sue can focus on cleaning this old house. Best wishes to all.
Friday Meese. 61 and rain going up to 74. I finally broke down and bought an air fryer. Now to figger out how to use it.
Puerto Rico
My daughter loves her air fryer! I have watched her use it and it is definitely a quick way to prepare certain meals. I get nervous around hot appliances so I have not tried it yet.
Just got a text message from goddaughter in GA – she said they had a very scary night – barely has phone service atm.
thanks for reminding me to email my friend in Georgia
Good morning. Did my walk. It’s nice & cool — 64 degrees. I brought a long sleeve shirt to throw on in case I needed it, but I left it in the car. Hey, 60s sounds chilly when the lows have been 80. Anyway, I just have to stay awake till work is over. Why can I not sleep at night when I need to but I totally could right now? And shouldn’t exercise help me sleep? Ugh.
It’s 55 heading for 77 and sunny at the moment but the clouds are already moving in. Yesterday we generated 13 KWHs and the m-t-d is 320 – while it’s not likely, we still might make it to, or even over, 340 by end of month.
My brother emailed yesterday and said they were evacuating and he would email me again when they got somewhere he could. I haven’t heard anything since. So I’m hanging onto my family’s general rule of “no news is good news” for the now.
Better but not good night last night. Hands are cold. It’s that time of year again. Not aching cold, just cold. And I’m wearing a 2nd shirt for the 1st time this season. Winter is a ‘comin’ in. But it’ll warm up later & looks like it’ll still be too warm for a fire this evening. We shall see.
Off to start my boosting day. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
Good morning, 58, cloudy and breezy in Bellingham today. I’m slow and sleepy today, but I don’t have anything I really must do so I can rest, nap and read and just let things be. With Sue’s help all the beds have fall linens, the window screens and fans are washed and put away, the bi annual spider vac is done, fall flowers are on the porches….the season is changed! Best wishes to all.
That sounds lovely, princesspat.
I did a spider vac yesterday on the outdoor den (aka covered porch). My least favorite thing to do but I do not like seeing them or worrying about where they are. I will be spending more time out there now that fall weather is arriving and would prefer to just share my space with humans.
Good morning, meeses! Friday …
It is 93 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 102. Sunny skies are in the forecast.
Kamala is in Arizona today, near the border. I hope that the Secret Service realizes that the Border Patrol is not to be trusted around our candidate. They would rather have tRump than any Democrat.
I broke away from my project to check in and now I have to put my nose back to the grindstone.
See all y’all later!
Saturday Meese. Word out of GA from my goddaughter is not good – they are without power
Puerto Rico
Hope your goddaughter will be all right!
Hi. There is something terribly wrong with my stomach. Skipping my Saturday workout group. I was up every hour or so last night, I don’t have a fever so it must be something I ate. Trouble is, I didn’t eat anything unusual. Trying to nibble on an oat cracker. I added gingerale, pepto and graham crackers to my grocery order, but I set it later because I expected to be exercising.
Sorry to hear that – you can have a tummy upset without a fever. Hope the crackers and more works for you

Good Saturday morning, Meese! Hey, we have sunlight! Actual sunlight! Right now it’s 74 F. but it’s going up to 80 F. Dearly, who despite his many afflictions, has excellent hearing, said it rained during the night. Our deficit is now only 4 inches.
Wanted to check in before the day gets completely away from me. Have to go to a cue-writing session at 10 for “The Elevator” play. (I’m the Voice in the Elevator.) Then this afternoon they’re showing an old movie, “Secretariat,” next door and I’d like to see that.
Well, my attempt to transform myself into Cousin Ingrid was a failure. The white jeans I cherished turned me into a baby tractor, and two different women told me the blonde wig did NOTHING for me. Damn, I vanted to be sexy Svedish chick, ja? On the other hand, the guy who won the grand prize in the drawing at the Authors’ Festival told me I should wear the blonde wig permanently. Humph! Gotta run—need to take a shower before I go to the meeting.
Wishing a good day to all at the Pond!

Good morning, meeses! Saturday …
It is 79 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 104. Sunny skies are in the forecast. The weather liars say that the heat wave will break tomorrow and drop back into the upper 90s. The average high temperature in September is 96 so 100 is not unusual – the last few days have been unusual. At least the August days when the morning low was 85 seem to be in the rear view mirror.
The mainstream media is doing their best to harsh the buzz of Democrats. I think the key is to not look at the minute-by-minute polls and never look at national polls. It is interesting to see that the biggest change in the support of tRump 2016 and 2020 to tRump 2024 is young men. Apparently they love the “keeping women in their place” and the punching down on minorities and people in need that MAGA encourages. Sad really. My daughter and her female peers want nothing to do with those men and it is only going to get worse as another generation of angry incels unleash their murderous rages on women.
I am still working on my all-consuming project but the last phase has started. I have my Medicare Wellness checkup next week and then my time is more or less my own again. I have a few smaller, more bite sized projects that can be finished quickly. I am looking forward to the quiet mornings when I can sip coffee and read the news.
See all y’all later!
