Week-long Welcomings from Moosylvania: October 20th

Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.

Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).

The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.

So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?

NOTE: The comments page will split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page (right before “Leave A Reply”) and use the Pages Tool to view previous pages, shown here with 3 pages of comments available and Page 2 circled.

  1. Good “morning”, Motley Meese! The week begins …

    Morning low of 55 degrees in the Desert Southwest 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 73. Sunny skies are in the forecast.

    Have a great day, all y’alls!!

  2. Good morning. Most energetic thing I did yesterday was laundry, but I feel better today. Tea is steeping, local news is — well, it’s nice that the worst thing that happened yesterday is our football team lost. But hey, the soccer team won. The F1 madness continues today, glad I don’t have to go downtown. I got the first draft of my music diary for next week written, found a way to incorporate a U2 song.

  3. It’s 48 heading for 84 (near record) today and sunny so far. Yesterday we generated 10.6 KWHs and the m-t-d at 225.87 will likely reach the next goal of 229 by mid to late afternoon. A very nice birthday present from the Powers That Be.

    I gave myself the “gift” of not doing the vacuuming this morning. LOL. My friend is coming over shortly to take me to coffee and my son is expected this afternoon to prepare a steak dinner for me. No cards from family but e-cards from friends and also 2 gifts (the battery lanterns & the popcorn popper) from friends. A very nice 73rd birthday I’d say.

    Off to start my boosting. Birthday or not, it’s a day ending in y. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}

    • AND my sister who never calls or sends cards called me! We talked for quite 20 minutes or so and would have talked longer if my friend hadn’t arrived. Definitely a nice birthday so far.

  4. Happy beautiful, bone-dry Sunday in Ashburn, Moosekind! Bfitz and Madame Vice President, may you enjoy the most joyful of birthdays! I looked up our bfitz’s horoscope for the coming year: more relaxed, happier. That’s great!

    ‘Tis blissful not to have to rush off anywhere. Dearly is watching Wolverhampton vs. Man City on the telly, and underdog Wolverhampton just scored a goal, much to his delight. I’m drinking coffee and reveling in the fact that there’s NO REHEARSAL tonight.

    Yesterday was spent preparing for, working, and recovering from, the annual Fall Festival. Three of my writers showed up to staff our table so one of us could take a break when we needed it. I wore my “Blue Ridge Writers” t-shirt and a tall, pointed black Witch hat, which occasioned some comment. To our dismay, we didn’t sell many copies of our anthology, but the writer who sold the MOST was the only male! We three females could only suppose that he was prettier and more popular than we were. Oh, well, the fact that we sold any was a boon. I’ll check on our status on the wait list at the annual bazaar next month. People are in a mood to buy then, and our anthology not only has zero calories but does not require batteries! You’d think the entire pop. of this place would go for that.

    In other news, Dearly is rather peeved that I’m gone so much (can’t blame him), and has asked me to stay at home more after the play is over. Well, that’s easy: I can’t sing or dance, so there’s zero possibility that I’ll audition for a part in the spring musical, “Crazy for You.” I could do makeup and sell tickets, though.

    Was completely away from the news all day yesterday, which is probably why I slept so well last night. I’m tired of hearing the race is “close.” HOW CAN IT BE “CLOSE”? Are you going to tell me that more than half of the voters are going to cast their ballots for the illegitimate offspring of a diseased camel?

    That’s enough from me. Will pop over to see Dee’s diary, I’ve always rather liked Dizzy. Wishing a good day to all at the Pond!

    P. S. Herself was still visible at 6:45 a.m. from my screened porch. Just her right jaw was a bit fuzzy, as she’s fading. It has been such a treat to see Her.

  5. Monday Meese. I’m sleepy after staying up late to watch our New York Liberty team win in an overtime squeaker WNBA championship.

    I’m also elated that women’s basketball is finally getting its props.

    Puerto Rico

    • The WNBA Championship Game was a nail-biter for sure. I am not sure why the Liberty coach waited so long to swap in Sabally – she was a game changer and in my mind the MVP of the last game. I am pleased for Stewie and the Liberty franchise but sad for the Lynx who played a great game and were treated rudely by some of the fans near the end of the game. I always forget that male basketball fans are rude! In any event, great for the sport, great for Stewie, great for the new young stars. NOW it’s time for NCAA Womens Basketball season. :)

  6. Good morning. Did my walk/run. Did .93 mi running today out of 1.4 all together. Inching slowly closer to that mile. Working out the logistics of voting & exercise tomorrow. I bought a “In my Madam President era” bumper sticker yesterday. Got to wash the car so I can put it on.

  7. Good Monday morning, Moosekind! It’s 51 F. in Ashburn right now, going up to 80. Our usual blue skies and sunshine, lovely, but as of today we have been three weeks without rain.

    And today is the 57th wedding anniversary for Dearly and me! As soon as my friend lets me know (I want her to join us), I’ll reserve a table for lunch at our favorite restaurant, L’Auberge Chez Francois.

    Great news! Yesterday I got paid for the work I did on the trilogy! The author said she hoped I’d enjoyed the books. Told her “enjoyed” was too mild a word, I was riveted. I didn’t want Divining Women, the third and last in the “Wheel of the Year” series, to end. I wanted to go on reading about 11-year-old Chrys forever. I admired the way the author didn’t shy away from writing about truly awful events and the horrifying people who were responsible. I also made up my mind that I will never, ever visit Colorado in the winter.

    But enough of this literary chitchat. No rehearsal for me tonight, but I have to check whether Connie and I are still on for “cues” rehearsal at 3 p.m. One of the actors in “Noah,” the second play we’re putting on, wants me to autograph my book that she bought at the Authors’ Festival, and she also wants to buy a copy of the anthology.

    Got a pedi at 11, so I’d better hustle to get ready. Wishing a great day to all at the Pond, and to Madame Vice President and her running mate! Won’t it be interesting and different to have a “First Gentleman” in the White House?

    • {{{Diana}}} Happy Anniversary to you & Dearly. 🎶🎉🌹💕

      Congratulations on getting paid. (We haven’t had a drop of rain & very few clouds this entire month so far. Great for generating electricity but not good otherwise.)

    • Happy Anniversary to you and Dearly Beloved! I hope your celebratory dinner is delightful!!

  8. It’s 55 heading for 83 and sunny. Yesterday we generated 10.28 KWHs and the m-t-d at 236 not only surpassed the 229 “goal” but it’s only 2 away from the next goal of 238. Yay.

    Yesterday was a lovely birthday. It began with my sister Mary calling and my friend visiting (with coffee & GF cookies), had a lot of birthday greetings online, the afternoon/evening brought my elder son who prepared a lovely steak and mushroom dinner (I’ve 3 servings of steak left) and my younger son called while he was doing it (we visited while Lang cooked then they visited while I ate), and ended with a call from my sister Janice (who I’ve also not talked to in years) and an email from my brother. A totally lovely day.

    Off to do start my daily boosting. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}

  9. Good morning, meeses! Monday …

    It is 57 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 82. Sunny skies are in the forecast. The cool spell felt good but I had to scramble to locate all my “winter” clothes and my slippers. Today I will run the furnace to burn the dust off the coils so that we can heat things up if we need to. It will set off the smoke detector so I need to do that in the light of day with the dog outside.

    I am going to ignore the news today. Someone mentioned that the mental meltdown of tRump is going to be glossed over as long as possible and that the plan will be to elect tRump and then 25th Amendment him and put JD Vance and his techbro puppetmasters including Elon Musk into power. They will destroy our democracy in more subtle ways but just as surely as tRump would. Goddess help us if that comes to pass. I hope the “can’t have a woman president” voters can be convinced to vote for democracy. I was not that thrilled to vote for an old white guy who palled around with white supremacists, in 2020, but I voted for him anyway. The Black and Latino men hesitating in 2024 need to get over it also. One goal – a Democratic president.

    I did not get done what I needed to over the weekend and today I will pay the piper.

    See all y’all later!

  10. Good morning. I slept in, going to go to kickboxing and run at the gym this afternoon. I voted yesterday, the news didn’t say anything about a record turnout, but there was a good crowd, I waited maybe 20 minutes. And I was wrong — we did break records:

  11. Tuesday Meese. Nice day here today. Have to head out for a doc appointment and then spend the rest of the day writing.
    Puerto Rico

    Federal funds lost due to PNPPD mismanagement and corruption. With a clean government, we will make sure they reach you. Join Juan Dalmau’s campaign for governor.

  12. It’s 69 heading for 86 and mostly sunny again. Yesterday we generated 10.2 KWHs and the m-t-d at 246.3 not only passed the 238 goal yesterday, it also passed the 243 goal and is getting close to the 252 goal. It’s being a good month for electricity generation.

    My youngest sister, the one I hadn’t heard from in over 5 years, called back last night to talk some more. And my brother emailed this morning and said that if he hadn’t called me by 8 pm my time to call him. So. Sort of a continuation of my birthday.

    Even though it was really too warm, I lit a fire yesterday for laundry. Half of which is still on the racks and waiting to be put up. But I’ll do that after I’ve gotten through my 1st and longest round of boosting. (Longest because it’s everyone who posted since I got off Xitter & bluesky last night at 6 pm.) Which I’d best get started on. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}

  13. Good beautiful Tuesday morning, Meese! Went out to check Her Highness around 8 a.m., to find the right half of Her face eaten off. Oh, well, I had a lot of really good looks at her this month, so can’t complain. It’s 60 F. now in Ashburger, going up to 82 F. Maybe shorts today?

    This morning I have to get a haircut, study my cues, deliver some book money to the writer who is handling that, rehearse cues at 3 p.m., then go to the UU dinner at 5 p.m. and rehearsal around 7 p.m. Crud. Too much is going on.

    I can’t look at the news. They’re all saying Thing is ahead. I can’t believe it. Don’t want to believe it.

    Wishing a good day to all at the Pond!

  14. Good morning, 50 and cloudy after a long night of wind and rain. So far our basement is dry, no branches have falling and leaves are blowing all around the neighborhood so all’s well. I’ve been absent for a few days, preoccupied with getting ready for Ron’s family visit this weekend. We had hoped to have this visit in August, but it was rescheduled so now it’s too wet to be outside so the house will be full with 14 people. We will host lunch and dinner on Sat so I need to be really organized. We have also been working in the storage locker and have several boxes of family photos for Ron and his brothers to sort and share their memories while doing so. I had hoped to do more with the storage locker but I’m out of time and energy so the rest will wait until next spring.

    Best Birthday Wishes bfitz, and Happy Anniversary Diana! And as always, my best wishes to all.

    • {{{princesspat}}} Thank you – & enjoy your family visit. Healing Energy & Moar {{{HUGS}}}

  15. Good afternoon, meeses! Tuesday …

    It is 88 degrees and sunny. Gorgeous day in the Old Pueblo.

    See all y’all later!

  16. Good morning. The heat is back — highs in the 90s today, sigh. When I pick out tomorrow’s clothes, it’ll be capris & sandals. In late October. Sigh. Am dressed for my lunch workout, so there’s half the battle for that, but my stomach is still unhappy so I’ll have to decide closer to that time.

  17. It’s 67 heading for 88 – today and tomorrow may be record-breakers – and sunny. Yesterday we generated 10.2 KWHs and the m-t-d at 256.4 is heading for the next goal of 261.

    Talked to my brother for over an hour last night. The place he’s been farming off & on for the last 15 or so years has been sold and he’s in the process of packing up and moving. One of his farming proteges has some small acreage (about 10 or so acres) with an empty 1-1/2 story 20′ x 60′ farm building on it. He’s letting my brother have that. So brother & nephew, who are also actually in the remodeling business, are going to turn it into upstairs and downstairs apartments and leave about 20′ x 20′ for equipment storage as they also put the place into production. Starting over at 69 is fun, right?

    Off to start my boosting day. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}

  18. Good beautiful Wednesday morning, Moosekind! It’s 55 F. at 10:30, Dearly is at the doctor’s office, and I haven’t done a thing this morning. I do need to take care of a few things. Today it’s going up to 80 F.

    Happy to report I only screwed up twice during rehearsal last night. Today I’ll do a cues rehearsal with a fellow actor at 3, then we have real rehearsal at 7:30 p.m.

    Just had a marathon phone con with Daughter, who is about to drive back to Massachusetts after leaf peeping in New Hampshire. Haven’t talked to her for a long time, although we text plenty. I just remembered that Grandson will be 27 on Sunday! Yikes! Like most young people, he no longer uses email, so I’ll just send him an Amazon gift card.

    I hope those millions of people who are voting early are voting for Kamala! I can’t let myself worry too much because then I’ll be sleepless. Wishing a good day to all at the Pond.
