Week-long Welcomings from Moosylvania: October 27th

Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.

Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).

The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.

So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?

NOTE: The comments page will split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page (right before “Leave A Reply”) and use the Pages Tool to view previous pages, shown here with 3 pages of comments available and Page 2 circled.

  1. Good morning, meeses! Wednesday …

It is 48 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 68. Sunny skies are in the forecast. The weather widget says this is a one day blip then the highs return to the upper 70s where they normally are. I like having the windows open right now but my walk later this morning is going to require a sweatshirt.

I am going news lite and poll free and trying to keep my spirits up. We can only hope that our voters are more energized than their voters. Can joy defeat gloom? Can building up defeat destroying? I guess we will find out in a week. The race will probably not likely be “called” in the late night but I am hoping that when I go to sleep Tuesday night the path forward is well lit. I will be doing my best to manifest a victory for the earth and her people and for at least 4 more years holding back those who want us all to die – and die painfully.

The good news is that Women’s College Basketball is back! Yesterday I watched the Arizona Wildcats, a taped exhibition game from Friday and a live exhibition game last night. They are not expected to do well by the Sports Guessers but they are going to be fun to watch. They are very young and very energetic. I have the Wisconsin Badgers exhibition game from last night taped and will watch it after I get my projects done, probably after lunch. The season starts Monday, November 4th, and I am so glad that Arizona moved out of the fan-unfriendly Pac12 with their media package that required cable TV and into the Big12 where I can watch every single game streaming on ESPN+. w00t!!

    See all y’all later!

    • Yay women’s college bb. Was looking at previews of new young exciting players. My team (SC Gamecocks w coach Dawn Staley) look like they will be a powerhouse this year – again.

  2. Good, beautiful, bone-dry Wednesday moaning, Moosekind! Why are we moaning? Because, most unfairly, the only sip of water I had past 9 p.m. yesterday was to wash down my sleeping pill–yet I still had to get up for the usual reason at 3:35 ayem and thereafter did not go back to sleep, even though I closed my eyes and tried to dream about something pleasant.

Well, never mind. We open tomorrow! Yesterday we rehearsed in costumes and makeup. People liked my little Witch hat, orange sweater, and black trews. However, I will wear those only for tomorrow’s matinee—for all the other performances I’ll wear something boring.

This morning I must, must go to the gym, tidy up this unbelievable tip, and bake a gingerbread for Dearly. A kind neighbor down the hallway put two pumpkin muffins, baked by her daughter, on our hallway shelf last night. We’ll enjoy them for afternoon tea. And this morning, opening the door to get the Washington Poop (Dearly hasn’t canceled the dead tree version yet), I saw that the little dog across the hall had left us a cute little bag of Halloween goodies. I emailed her Mum to thank them both.

Even the weather people are moaning about “28 days without rain.” I joined a rain blog on Facebark, so am able to enjoy pictures of wet, shiny streets in various cities.

That’s enough from me this morning. Wishing a wonderful day to all at the Pond, and a STUPENDOUS day to future Madame President Harris, who pulled a crowd of 75,000 enthusiastic supporters in DC last night! Yay!

  3. It’s 70 heading for 79 and sunny at the moment. Yesterday we generated 7.9 KWHs and the m-t-d at 318.5 and gaining for 2 more days is helping make up for the losses of being down last summer. Won’t totally make up of course. We lost close to a megawatt of production. But this certainly helps.

The 48 hours of rain predicted last week for these last 2 days of October has diminished to maybe an hour around midnight tonight. We desperately need it. It’s been at least 6 weeks since we’ve had rain and we’re in “extreme” drought conditions.

    Need to go to the grocery store this afternoon but right now I need to get on my boosting day. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}

  4. Thursday Meese. We are having another weather shift here – it will be 81 today.

The fallout around the Puerto Rico is garbage – continues.

  5. Good morning. Just did a walk this morning, yesterday’s kickboxing was hard. I’m wearing my book fairy t-shirt & I have a wand that I stuck book stickers on. Hope everyone has a good day!

  6. Good Thursday morning, Meese! It’s another flawlessly beautiful, bone-dry October day, with a current temp. of 61. The high today will be 80-something (just my age).

Rehearsal last night was a disaster, we skipped a whole page. I do all right the first half of the play, but the second half is confusing. Also, the buzzer on the elevator didn’t work, so howinell was I supposed to know when someone summoned the elevator? Never mind, soon be over. We open this afternoon, there’s a matinee tomorrow, and an evening performance Saturday. Slept well despite nightmares, leg cramps, and election anxiety.

This morning Tamara and I are going to dress up as Witches and sit in the Great Oak Clubhouse lobby to tell fortunes. We did this last year. I can’t read the Tarot but Tamara can. I’ll pass out fortune cookies.

Wishing a good day to all at the Pond, and a blessed Samhain to all! BTW, Hung Cao, who’s the Trumpist running against Tim Kaine, says Witchcraft is becoming a problem in Virginia, and that we don’t want Virginia to become like California, where Witchcraft has taken over the state. WHAT are these people DRINKING?

  7. It’s 52, wind chill (!) 49, heading for 68, and overcast. It’s supposed to clear off in a bit. Yesterday we generated 7.5 KWHs and the m-t-d is 325.95 with the system currently in night mode. Best ever for October, February and even some Septembers and the lowest March! And still a day to go.

It started raining around midnight. Only hard at first but it stayed steady until after 6 am. We got a very much needed 1.8 inches of rain. Every time I surfaced during the night – not exactly awake but aware enough to hear – it was still raining. And that was nice. The forecast says a lot more much-needed rain the 1st week of November. Which even though that will mean very low electricity generation for me, I’m glad to see. IF it comes and we don’t just get clouds & no rain.

    Just took lemon-walnut muffin bread out of the oven. The house smells lovely. It should be ready to cut about the time I’m ready for a break in my boosting. Which I’d best get off to doing. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}

  8. Good morning, meeses! Thursday that for some reason feels like a Friday …

It is 52 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 77. Sunny skies are in the forecast.

The Republicans latching onto Joe Biden’s stumbly attempt to call the “comedian” at tRump’s rally “garbage” is pretty funny! When they say “Joe Biden called my supporters garbage” all that really does is make 60% of the country nod their heads and say “why, yes, yes they are!” instead of being horrified. If they hope that to be an October game changer, they are silly. The October game changer just might be his advisor Melon Husk declaring that his brilliant plan for the economy is to destroy it claiming that in two years it will rebuild itself better than it was. Good lord, anyone who votes for the billionaire bros is an idiot. Billionaires are the only ones who can survive two years of an economic collapse – the rest of us will die. I hope that there is time for our side to get some ads out on this latest idiocy along with the plan to put Bobby Kennedy Jr in charge of HHS and the FDA.

My own plan for the election is to do some moon magic revolving around the new moon which will arrive tomorrow morning. The pretty waning moon over my mountains yesterday morning gave me the inspiration. I will share it with you when I have all the details worked out. In the meantime, I will continue to go news lite – ignoring bad news, polls and especially post-election mayhem; that is putting the worst energy possible out on the universe.

    See all y’all later!

  9. Good morning, 46 and cloudy. We will turn off the porch lights and go to a new taco restaurant tonight so no Halloween treats this year. I want to make the patio look spooky with candles and a fire but that’s more work than I want to do so I’ll just imagine what it would look like :)
The city arborist was here on Tuesday and we have a plan that will hopefully make it harder for the ivy vandals. Per city ordinance maintaining the tree is the adjacent home owners responsibility but he will do what he can to assist. So we’ll do what we can and if the vandalism stops that will be enough for now.

As always, my best wishes to all.

  10. New Moon Energy for a Good Outcome
    Waning Moon, October 30th

Our moon will be new this morning at 5:47 am MST and PDT (8:47am Eastern). I am envisioning the negative energy from this election cycle (polls, negative ads, lies, hatred) disappearing into the darkness at the final waning moments and then the four days before the election and election day being bathed in waxing moon energy to cleanse and energize the voters and the vote counters. The waxing energy grows slowing so it needs to be nurtured by positive thoughts, enthusiasm, love for humanity and the earth. The waxing moon glow will illuminate the goddess’ people through November 15th, every day gaining strength when our victory over those who want to plunge us into permanent darkness will be unassailable.

    So mote it be.

    • I will be thinking today, on Día de Muertos, of those who passed from the earthly plane in the last year, one who was very dear to me and whose loss is painful every day and another one close to me whose spirit was great and loving. Ancestor energy is powerful and can be harnessed for good and while the veil is thin, I intend to speak to them and ask that they pray along with me that people do the right thing and that good will triumph over those who want humanity to suffer.

      • Yes.

        • Día de los Muertos is a big deal here in Tucson (which was part of Mexico for centuries). Even the local Target store has displays and featured products.

  11. Good Friday morning, Moosekind! It’s RAINING! Not raining hard, mind you, but although it’s still dark I can hear it and smell it. Also, the concrete of the screened porch is dark on one side, which means the rain is coming from the East. We certainly felt the front moving through yesterday in late afternoon: it was horribly windy. Current temp. in Ashburn is 66 F., going up to (glumly) 80 F. It doesn’t seem like Samhain with regard to temperature.

The matinee went quite well except that I said “Going up” twice at the end, which wasn’t right. I’ll be on guard for that at this afternoon’s performance. We had an appreciative audience, which was good. My Circle Sister Marian drove all the way from Manassas to attend. So good of her! She was very enthusiastic, even had lunch at the Acorn Deli beforehand, and vigorously congratulated all cast members after the show when we were lined up to receive encomiums.

On a more sinister note, I received a call at 5:30 p.m. that went to voicemail. (My phone is set to reject all numbers that aren’t “favorites.”) A doctor from the Medical Center here called and wants me to call back today. Does this have anything to do with the mammogram I underwent on Tuesday? The radiologist was supposed to read it yesterday. Usually, I receive a letter a couple of weeks later. Stay tuned.

Tamara read my Tarot cards. One of them featured a weeping man, which in fact turned up through every three-card spread she did, no matter whose it was. She thinks it was Defeated Former Guy, losing the election. Anyway, the one she did for me said I was going to Go Through Some Things but the final card had 10 golden pentacles, which means everything will be all right. H’mm.

Definitely going to the gym, whatever else happens. Wishing a good day to all at the Pond! My election anxiety is fierce today.

    • What is this “rain” of which you speak? They keep saying it’s going to rain, I set my one remaining mint plant out for water (all the aloe veras are fine) and it never does.

Good thoughts about the health center call.

  12. Good morning, meeses! Friday, new month and new moon …

It is 59 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 77. Sunny skies are in the forecast. A perfect day, weatherwise.

I will be working on casting negativity into the moon’s waning light for the next hour and then I will begin my work day when the moon begins her new cycle. I have to tie up the loose ends from October projects and plan November.

    See all y’all later!

  13. Good morning. Of the 1.6 mi I did this morning, 1.1 was running! Yay me. My car’s “check electrical system” light is on, I drove in to work anyway, hope it starts to take me home. They’ll look at it tomorrow, wonder if I can do $200 worth of online work in my breaks & lunch today. Sigh.

  14. Friday Meese. Waiting to hear back from Puerto Ricanfriends who drove to PA yesterday to doorknock for Kamala in PA.

  15. It’s 45 heading for 73 and sunny at the moment. Clouds supposed to move in – well ahead of the promised rain. (Which I’ll believe in when we get it.) We wrapped up October with 334.86 KWHs – something that will probably never happen again but I’m grateful for. November is the 1st of the really low light and thus low production months. The “it would take a miracle” goal is over 200. The “at least better than last year” goal is 166. And the “covers my usage” goal is 180.

    I can never see the new moon. But I know She’s there and bringing good stuff. This weekend part of the good stuff She’s bringing is our return to normal/standard/”god’s” time. I wish we’d get rid of DST but apparently the one’s who actually can – state as well as federal legislators – aren’t interested in giving “The People” that much relief. sigh. Off to start my boosting day. New month means lots of people are desperate for rent money. Double sigh. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}

    • I am looking forward to the rest of America ending Daylight Saving Time. It makes us 3 hours from Eastern time and 2 hours from Central time which is where most of my clients are. I will get an extra hour of sleep because I won’t have to wake up so early to connect to their computers before their work day begins.

  16. Good morning, 46 and cloudy in Bellingham today. Last summer our favorite taco restaurant closed and we’ve really missed it. So last night we tried a new place and the tacos were very tasty, yay! It was fun to be there last night, a needed respite from tRump angst. If I can keep my worried mind focused we’re going to redo our cable plan today so I need to find streaming sites passwords, decide whether to keep our land line or not, etc. I’ve tried to do this online but it’s complicated so we’ll go to the Comcast store for some live person assistance. Best wishes to all.

    • I have not had a land line for years. When I needed a real phone number for business, I purchased a Voice Over IP (VOIP) line which gives me a telephone number that is connected in the cloud using my Internet service. It can go with me where ever I go so if I change Internet Service Providers, I don’t have to change phone numbers (many ISPs have a “free” phone number you can add but you lose it if you cancel them). The product I use is Ooma and you can buy the starter kit on Amazon. I have it connected to my old AT&T phone system which has two portables. It works great!

  17. Good morning. Skipping my crack-of-dawn workout, I’m afraid to drive down to the park with my car having issues. Repair appointment is at 9. If I get a loaner car, I’ll go to kickboxing. Meanwhile, I’m just watching the local news. It was supposed to rain this morning so of course it’s bone dry.

  18. Good morning, meeses! Saturday …

It is 52 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 77. Mostly sunny skies are in the forecast.

The waxing moon is at 1% illumination and will rise at 7:50am Mountain Standard Time in the ESE and set at 6:06pm MST in the WSW. Feel the moonmentum!

The Arizona Attorney General is investigating tRump for death threats to Liz Cheney and Cheney calls on disgraced formerly-the-worst-president-ever George W. Bush to denounce Trump and endorse Kamala Harris. It won’t happen. George W. Bush did more permanent damage to American democracy and the economy and he has no interest in making amends for that because he is blind to his failings. In any event, it would probably not sway a single voter but it might make tRump’s head asplode. I wonder if there are any gettable votes if tRump totally melts down and loses his last bit of self-control?

I am working on accounting projects this morning and planning November projects. I like that weekend work is generally done at my own pace.

    See all y’all later!

  19. Good Saturday morning, Meese! It’s 49 F. on a gorgeous day and there’s a nip in the air. It’ll get up to 63 F. today before it goes back to Hot Zone temps on Monday.

Dearest Sister Meese, thank you for your support in my hours of horrible imaginings. After a night of imagining losing all my hair and walking around listing to one side because of a Missing Piece, the doctor (she is not even my primary care doctor) called to tell me my mammogram was fine. SO WHY DID SHE CALL? Normally, in the case of mammograms, bad news arrives by telephone and good news by letter a fortnight after the X-ray. Until last year the letter said huffily, “Your breasts are very dense.” Last year it said, in a surprised tone, “Your breasts are not very dense.” Well, whaddathey expect? I’m, like, 80 years old for Goddess’ sake.

But enough of this anatomical chitchat. Yesterday we had a bigger house for the plays than on Thursday, and the audience was most appreciative. I’m always the last person to appear on stage (Sarah presses a button and I emerge from the elevator), and for some bizarre reason I get a lot of applause. It’s the others who deserve the cheering, especially those who had to learn Italian for their roles. Anyway, although the house is usually small on Saturday nights, I hope we’ll remember our lines as well as we did on Thursday. Yesterday some of us forgot them. I only screwed up a couple of times opening the elevator.

Dearly continues to believe that Kamala will lose, but that’s because he watches Misogynoir Televicious all day. The blogs and Tweeter tell me something completely different. I hope the blogs are right. And yeah, I wish Mark Cuban would buy Twitter and restore it to its previous decency. There are still people I’d miss too much to ever go off it. My BlueSky feed gives me the news from the Guardian and that’s about it.

Well, enough from me, I should take a shower and hotfoot it to the gym. Performance tonight and we have to be in makeup at 6 p.m. Tomorrow and Tuesday we get a day off. Monday and Wednesday we have rehearsal. And so it goes.

Wishing a good day to all at the Pond and a fabulous day to future Madame President Kamala Devi Harris!
