Week-long Welcomings from Moosylvania: November 3rd

Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.

Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).

The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.

So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?

NOTE: The comments page will split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page (right before “Leave A Reply”) and use the Pages Tool to view previous pages, shown here with 3 pages of comments available and Page 2 circled.

  1. Good “morning”, Motley Meese! The week begins …

Morning low of 50 degrees in the Desert Southwest 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 63. Cloudy skies with a chance of rain off and on all day.

The waxing moon, at 5% illumination, will rise at 8:51am Mountain Time in the ESE sky and set at 6:46pm in the WSW. She continues to gather the positive energy of all people of good will for the best possible outcomes for the week ahead.

Have a great day, all y’alls!!

    • Don’t forget that Daylight Saving Time ends early Sunday morning. I hope you enjoy your extra hour of sleep!!

  2. Good morning. So, yesterday was a very long day. Dropped the car off — and just in the nick of time, because all the lights went off as I was pulling in, and the steering went out. They had to restart it twice to get it into a repair bay. I’m really afraid how much it’s going to cost. Then I couldn’t find my phone. I went back to the repair place, not there…. So I went home, got my old phone, went to the T-Mobile store, had them inactivate my new one, blah blah blah. And spent a big chink of the day signing out of all my apps and resetting passwords. Only to find the phone in the loaner car after all. So, this morning: tea is made, next week’s breakfast is thawing so I can put it in containers. Church will be very long today, they’re doing the Brahms Requiem. They’ve been saying 90 minutes. So I’m trying to have as little to do this afternoon as possible. Just making risotto (I use frozen stuff) so not much this afternoon, cook vegetables & add them in.

    • Great Mother, you had enough trouble yesterday to last the whole month!

Sympathize bigly with the horror of losing your phone, even though it was temporary. Even losing it for a few hours feels AWFUL. Glad you’ve got it back! I taped one of those tiny address labels on the back of mine, which at least gives someone a starting point. I’m afraid to any other info on it.

Hope the coming week is MUCH better for you, and hope today’s activities will allow you to get a Handel on things.

  3. It’s 61 heading for 71 overcast and drizzling. It’s supposed to rain off and on, mostly on, thru Tuesday. There’s only 1 even partly sunny day in the 10-day forecast. sigh. Yesterday we generated 2 KWHs. The m-t-d at 10.9 is most certainly not on track.

    Heaven knows we need the rain but I certainly don’t need the achy creakiness that comes with it. But I got everything but the clean sheets on my bed done. I’ll do that later. I need to get to my boosting. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}

  4. Good lovely Sunday morning, Moosekind! It’s still bone dry. It occurred to me recently that one day I’ll have popped my clogs and then I won’t be seeing this flawless October weather ever again. Yesterday when I came out of the gym I observed there was a delightful nip in the air.

Had a marathon conversation with M’Daughter last night, this one lasting an hour and a half. Her mother-in-law is terminally ill, so Son-in-Law has flown to Austin to be there with her. Poor thing, she’s 91 years old and has every ailment you can think of.

We had a nice audience for our play last night, quite large for a Saturday evening, which traditionally draws a smaller crowd. They laughed at everything, even things that weren’t particularly funny. They’d probably had a coupla glasses of wine at dinner. After I came home I felt I deserved a cup of tea, which was a big mistake as it caused me to be awake a good bit of the night. Never mind.

Must look up the recipe for Steak and Mushroom pie. That’s what I’m making tonight for dinner. I’m feeling better now that I’ve seen the Seltzer poll from Iowa. Wishing a good day to all at the Pond!

  5. Good afternoon, 46 and cloudy on this lazy Sunday. I’m just no doing much of anything and its to late now to even try. Seeing the Selzer poll last night flooded me with relief, then the worries started in the night, so today I want to be hopeful but looks like I’ll be anxious until this is over. My phone has been busy today trying to reassure my kids and sharing their concerns. Ron is cooking to ease his worried mind so the house smells like Greek food and I think he is baking a pear clafouti. So we’ll enjoy a tasty dinner tonight and tomorrow is anther day. Best wishes to all.

  6. Good morning, meeses! Monday …

It is 45 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 59. Mostly sunny skies are in the forecast. We had rain all day yesterday, with an occasional thunderstorm and hailstorm mixed in, but the skies are clear right now.

The waxing moon, at 10.7% illumination, will rise at 9:51am Mountain Time in the ESE sky and set at 7:34pm in the SW. She continues to gather the positive energy of all people of good will for the best possible outcomes for the week ahead.

Today I will ignore the polls and any negative news. I sense that the pollsters overlooked the Crones, as often happens, and that the women over 60 demographic now has enough women who remember the bad old days and don’t want to go back for themselves, their daughters or their granddaughters. Men in charge of reproductive rights, men deciding how their wives must vote, men deciding if women can get credit cards or bank accounts or take jobs outside the home … or be President of the United States. We say “hell, no, we won’t go back.”

Today I will gather notes for end of year accounting and reporting, complete an important project that got put aside for non-put-asideable projects and then watch an afternoon of Women’s College Basketball.

    See all y’all later!

    • Some notes on Crones for those who need a reminder:

If your definition of a crone is a withered old woman or hag, you might need to update your dictionary. Thanks to a grassroots movement that is sweeping the nation, women are no longer denying their age, but embracing their crone years and redefining the word. You see, in ancient civilizations, long before Botox injections and breast implants, older women (crones) were actually revered, not for their wrinkle-free faces and unnaturally perfect bodies, but for the depth of their wisdom and power, recognized for the inner strength and character development that comes only through years of living.

In that article from 2019, one woman shared her vow in what was called a Croning ceremony:

“I claim my age, wisdom, power, not with fear, not with trepidation and not with denial, dread or with the resignation that I will just become an old woman. Instead, I vow to claim my cronedom with curiosity, joy and passion. I vow to take my place in offering to myself, to others, and to the world, the wisdom and knowledge that I now possess of the oneness and unity of all things and to act accordingly.
I vow to be fully alive; I vow to acknowledge my power, but not power over anyone. Instead, I acknowledge a power that is a feeling of inner strength that I will take with me everywhere. I vow to express the freedom that is my birthright, to be exactly who I am, to say “This is how I am showing up now,” and love myself for it. I vow to live a life of passion, caring deeply about my world, and serving it in some way, great or small. I vow to offer compassion to myself, others and the world, to do the work and inquire when my judgments and thoughts prevent me from knowing who I really am. I vow to practice simplicity and live lightly in the world. I vow to practice living in the present moment, to be fully present, fully alive, fully Goddess Crone.”

  7. Good morning. Did my walk/run — 1.1 mi feels normal now. Gloves are in the loaner car for kickboxing after work. Between the election & my car, I’m somewhat tense. Holding good thoughts for everyone.

  8. Good Monday morning, Moosekind! It’s a bit hazy at the moment in Ashburn, 46 F. now, going up to 64 F. This is our last coldish day. Tomorrow it will be 77 F. and even warmer on Wednesday.

Dearly loved the steak and mushroom pie I made and we both enjoyed the cheese, crackers, and fruit that followed. I didn’t go to the gym yesterday, just felt too tired. I did go for a decent walk with my friend N., whom I’ve known for 50 years, and her little dog Molly.

Today: get hair done, go to the gym, study the script again, fold some laundry, and get to rehearsal at 7. No makeup, no costumes. Tomorrow I’ll be handing out sample Democratic ballots from 10 to 12, and from 5 to 6. Then we’ll settle down to a night of watching the returns. Dearly, owing to his bad eyes, is not one to follow the returns on a blog, so it will have to be the telly. I’m trying to decide which network is the LEAST obnoxious. I loathe the pundits who think they know it all and discount us women.

Wishing a good day to all at the Pond and a GREAT day to Harris-Walz!

    • I am not sure where to watch. I can’t stand MSNBC which insists on platforming Republicans – they should be banished from polite society. My PBS station invited me to watch there but I am not sure who moderates it and if they won’t be a*holes. I may watch sporting events and peek at my news streams on my phone when returns start coming in. The NPR streams are the best as they cover different state races as well.

      • I’m going to vote, then I’m going to watch some women’s college basketball today, then go to Black Kos, then I am going to ignore the MSM and stream the Black Star Network/Roland Martin – or some other non-MSM channel

  9. Monday Meese. Cold here again this morning. Am trying to remain calm and upbeat.
Lots of Puerto Rico news today. Elated to see a massive turnout there

    “Change”

    More Puerto Rico

  10. It’s 62 heading for 74 and while there are clouds just about everywhere there’s one patch of blue and the sun is shining through it ATM. We’ve now accumulated 3″ of rain and there’s more coming today & tonight. Won’t catch us up but it’s definitely making a dent in the drought. The grass in my yard is trying to green up again. On the other hand we only generated 2 KWHs again yesterday and the m-t-d at 13 isn’t on track for 100 much less 200.

    I’ve already voted. But elections are about bringing future good to regional and national (& international I hope) bad situations. Off to my boosting which is about bringing current good to individual bad situations. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}

  11. Good morning, 48,raining and a high wind warning so it’s a blustery day in Bellingham. I’m more worried re tomorrow’s election than I want to admit so I’ll try to stay busy with laundry and some easy sewing. Best wishes to all.

  12. Good morning, meeses! Tuesday, November 5th, Election Day …

It is 45 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 66. Sunny skies are in the forecast. I saw the moon in the evening sky and she was splendid, bright and bold, filled with the hopes and dreams of humanity.

Today, the waxing moon, at 18% illumination, will rise at 10:48am Mountain Time in the SE sky and set at 8:29pm in the SW. She continues to gather the positive energy of all people of good will for the best possible outcomes for the week ahead and illuminating the voters, vote counters and vote certifiers as she waxes to the full moon on November 15th.

I lit a candle for the start of voting in the east and will keep it burning until the polls close in California.

    See all y’all later!

    • Last night’s waxing crescent at sunset over the rooftops, with Venus to the upper right.
Waxing Crescent November 4, 2024 filled with positive energy

Polls close per NPR. Swing states:

      7 p.m. ET – Georgia
      7:30 p.m. ET – North Carolina
      8 p.m. ET – Pennsylvania
9 p.m. ET – Arizona, Michigan, Wisconsin plus Iowa ;)
      10 p.m. ET – Nevada

      • Jan, thanks for the picture and for the news of Her Silveryness. I don’t get to see her at ALL. Wonder if She’ll show up tonight when I dance the Kamala Walz on Great Oak Common?

I feel as sure as I can be that it will NOT be “close” and that the pundits and polls are all morons. I think we’ll know by 11 p.m. if not before.

  13. Election Day Meese. 52 going up to 73 here in Kingston NY – good weather for voting.
Having two elections to watch, here and in Puerto Rico is nerve wracking.
    Love this editorial cartoon

    Hope some men do this.

    Puerto Rico/Puerto Ricans

  14. Hi. So yesterday sucked. The estimate for my car is $2,000. They said my brakes are down to 3 cm and need replacing as well as the alternator and battery. I have a credit card that was all paid off, so I can put it on that. So I really need a Harris victory or even Allred (which I think is much less likely) so that something good happens.

  15. Good Tuesday morning and happy Guy Fawkes Day, Meese! ‘Tis 54 F.in silvery-blue Ashburn at the moment. It’s going up to 77 F.

We voted at 7 a.m.—how very agreeable to only have to stroll down the hall to do it—and came home to enjoy coffee, hot cinnamon rolls, and orange juice. I liked seeing so many of my fellow actors and Progressives staffing the polls and handing out sample Democratic ballots. It’s so great to know all these people!

In little more than an hour I have to be at the elementary school to hand out sample Democratic ballots. I’m feeling encouraged by what I’ve seen on Twitter—long lines of students at U. Penn and other universities waiting to vote first thing in the morning. I’ll be home a little after 12 to make Dearly’s lunch, and then I’ll have a rest before it’s time to hand out sample ballots here at The Home.

We’ve worked, donated, and done all we can—let’s pray the result is the one we want!

Wishing a good day to all at the Pond, and the best day EVER to Madame Auntie Vice President Kamala Harris, and her running mate, TIM!

  16. It’s 58 heading for 68 and overcast. The PV system is on but just barely. Yesterday we had enough clear blue patches for the sun to come though that we generated 6 KWHs. The m-t-d at 18.9 isn’t on track but it didn’t lose any more ground. As it will today.

A bit of excitement yesterday afternoon/evening – we were under a tornado warning for several hours. The city sirens went off several times. Schools and early voting were closed. Not much issue with the schools. It was almost time for them to let out anyway. It did shut down a couple of hours of early voting though. Far as I know there was no damage in Fayetteville and only minor/localized damage in the county. Our rain total is up over 4″ now and they’ve lifted the burn ban.

I’m not watching the returns. I’ll check in – maybe social media, maybe loal news – before I go to bed (possibly a little later than usual so that the west coast polls have closed. Hoping/praying we get a blowout so there’s no room for the evil ones to cause legal trouble. However much physical trouble they cause. Not banking on it. But hoping/praying.

    Off to do what I can to as far as good in the world. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}

  17. Just got back from voting – grrrr – our local roads Dept (run by Republicans) decided to pave the road going into our polling place today – making a mess.
    But we did it!

  18. Good morning, 48 and more rain in Bellingham today. My family is nervous so the phone is busy, but the pics of them wearing their Kamala shirts make me smile. This election is so impt, especially for my grandkids.

I’ve turned the tv off for now and am sipping tea, listening to music and playing solitaire. Going to be a long day! As always, my best wishes to all.

  19. Checking in. I will not be online today. Abortion rights won in Arizona, bad judges will not have lifetime appointments but the same people who voted for those two outcomes voted to allow Arizona law enforcement to arrest people if they don’t look “American” enough. Goddess help us.
