Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.
Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).
The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.
So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?
…
NOTE: The comments page will split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page (right before “Leave A Reply”) and use the Pages Tool to view previous pages, shown here with 3 pages of comments available and Page 2 circled.

Good “morning”, Motley Meese! The week begins …
Morning low of 48 degrees in the Desert Southwest 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 68. Sunny skies are in the forecast.
Have a great day, all y’alls!!
Sunday Meese. 47 here today and perhaps some snow tomorrow.
Puerto Rico
“One of the video’s most striking visuals features Benito lying in bed in a house that eventually burns down—a clear metaphor for what he believes is happening to Puerto Rico. This imagery ties into his criticism of Jennifer González, the recently elected governor from the pro-statehood New Progressive Party, whose policies Bad Bunny has opposed.”
Good morning. It was so cold & rainy all day yesterday I never got my mile in. Maybe today after I take care of my plants. For now, letting my tea steep & cool. There’s much drama among the Republicans about the state House Speaker race, fun to watch them going after each other. It’ll most likely be the guy who wants to totally exclude Democrats, but it’s nice that there’s a guy who doesn’t.

Good Sunday morning, Moosekind! It’s 43 F. going up to 60-something F. on a clear, frosty-feeling morning. Couldn’t see Herself last night as there were clouds in the way.
After agonizing and shrieking all day, just before dinner I finally found the Christmas stamps in the one place I hadn’t looked before. Is this a sign of incipient Alzheimer’s? I hope not.
Yesterday I worked on the Winter Solstice Ritual and my annual Christmas newsletter to the family. Today will be busy: doing a few Christmas cards, exercise (didn’t do that yesterday), and running to the store to get the ingredients for tonight’s dinner. I’m going to make Cornish pasties and cabbage. The great thing is, I’ll make so many pasties that Dearly can have them for lunch all week long.
As an act of nonviolent resistance, I’m going to tune the car radio to a classical music station. It’s currently tuned to an all-news and weather station. Help me think of more acts of nonviolent resistance, Moosekind!
Dee, going to run by DK to read your diary about Sammy Davis, Jr. Loved that guy. Wishing a good day to all at the Pond!
It’s 47, has been since about sundown, going up to 53 and overcast. Supposed to get rain but I’ll believe that if/when it falls. Yesterday we generated 6.88 KWHS, today I’ll be surprised if we get 2. But the m-t-d at 48.8 is on track with enough room to spare we’ll be OK. IF we don’t get too much cloud cover next week.
Saw the moon for just a few seconds last evening. The clouds were moving in fast and I went out to see if she might still be visible. She was. But when I glanced down at a neighbor’s cat who wanted petting, then glanced up again, she was gone. Or rather covered by clouds. But I did see her.
Got the Sunday cleaning chores done. Back and hands complaining. Well, my hands were complaining even before I started. But it’s done for another week. Off to start my boosting day. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
Good morning, 46 and rain showers in Bellingham. If we stay on track the tree will come indoors today. This is a muddling along Christmas but that’s ok, less intense and more relaxed is the way we need to be right now. I’m enjoying poking around thrift shops for gifts, but now I have to wrap them. So along with wrap few packages, light up the tree, help Ron cook dinner, do a laundry load or two and that’s my day. Best wishes to all.
Good morning. Did my walk/run — made it to 1.25 mi running — a very slight bit more but still, more. In the office, it’s not bad out this morning — and headed for a near-record high in the mid-80s this afternoon. But then a cold front and near freezing by the end of the week. The roller coaster that is Texas winter.
Good, blessedly rainy Monday morning, Moosekind! Periodically I open the door to the screened porch to listen to the sound of rain falling. It’s so RARE here! It’s only 41 F. at the moment. Later we’re supposed to receive sunshine.
I rarely am able to achieve the daily goals I set for myself. Well, I did change the sheets on the bed and do a whole heap of laundry yesterday; prepared three meals. It was too late to prepare the Cornish Pasties by the time I arrived home from the grocery store, so I made Shepherd’s Pie instead. Perhaps tomorrow I’ll have time to do the pasties.
A weird, Otherworldly thing happened yesterday. Might describe it later.
Today I have lunch scheduled with one of my writers, who is devastated by the loss of her best friend (who was also one of my writers).
After that I have a Drama Club Board meeting from 3:30 to 5. Somewhere in all this I have to work on the ritual and the newsletter. If only there weren’t this awful, looming shadow over us all. He’s threatening to put Liz Cheney in jail! Most of her beliefs and policy positions are the opposite of everything we stand for, but one thing she is, and that’s genuinely American, a believer in the rule of law and the Constitution.
Time to mess about with the laundry, then walk to the CVS to pick up my blood pressure meds., and—it’s to be hoped—go to the gym.
Wishing a good day to all at the Pond. I think I’ll open the door again and listen to the falling rain. BB.
It’s 48 heading for 57 and overcast. The 1st week of December was great for production but that may be it. Yesterday we generated 1.4 KWHs and while we’re still on track with the m-t-d at 50, we won’t be tonight if we don’t generated at least 4. And I seriously doubt we will. The rest of the 10-day forecast looks the same. We might get sunshine Wednesday. We might get rain Thursday. But mostly lots of clouds and no water. sigh.
The family Yule gathering will be next Sunday. Late of course. Most of the family will be here by 6. IF I’m lucky. My youngest AR grandson has another party that evening so he may just stop by for a visit and be gone by the time everybody else gets here. Sigh. We shall see what we shall see. But I’d best get everything done in the early afternoon that I usually do just before bedtime. LOL. Anyway, that’s Sunday. Today I need to go to the grocery store but first I need to get to my boosting. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thoughts for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
Good morning, 40 and cloudy in Bellingham. Our son tweaked his shoulder at work and my right arm doesn’t want to life anything so the tree is still in the garage…..we’ll see what happens today :) However I did go to a used bookstore yesterday and found four interesting blacksmithing books for son#2 and a piece of Orcas Island pottery for our granddaughter. I used to browse antique shops regularly so it’s fun to do so again and to be open to what I find. I’ll listen to CBC classical music programs today while wrapping the gifts and continue to stay news light. I’m partially informed but that ok for now. Best wishes to all.
Good morning, meeses! Monday …
It is 61 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 68. Sunny skies are in the forecast.
I realized last night that since BlueSky is now filled with lots and lots of people I am getting some disturbing news that I don’t particularly want to see. For example, did I need to know that tRump’s 2025 project included repealing the 14th Amendment’s birthright citizenship provision and that the tRump malAdministration is working to implement that on Day One by refusing to issue birth certificates and Social Security accounts to the children of undocumented immigrants? No, I do not! Bernie Sanders and his minions who ratfked the Supreme Court by their insistence on purity own this. We could probably survive a second tRump term but not with the Supreme Court we have now. Goddess help us.
I got caught up on business accounting and got an appointment for a haircut tomorrow. That is enough for today.
See all y’all later!
Woke up to this sad news
May she be forever remembered.
Good Tuesday morning, Meese! We woke up to Brigadoon this morning, thick fog everywhere. It was kinda cool, actually—felt my Scots blood sitting up and taking notice. The sky is still thick with clouds, so we can hear incoming planes but not see them, and fog-pearls still adorn the screens on the porch. Now, however, it’s just a regular gray December morning, 46 F. now, going up to 54 F. We may get some blessed rain tonight.
Saw the gorgeous, silvery, nearly half-moon last night as I walked home from the board meeting and picking up dinner.
This morning as I was waking up, I suddenly thought of a way to give the Winter Solstice ritual more impact. It’s to be hoped I’ll have a chance to write it out today and send it to B. She wants to burn magic paper, sending our wishes out to the universe. I know I want to invoke the Divine Feminine, but don’t know what to call her. Asherah would not be familiar to most of the people present, nor would Inanna. I feel drawn to Gaia, our Earth Mother, so will probably invoke Her.
In other news, Dearly is at the doctor’s, I’ve got to make those pasties for dinner tonight, and I must go to the gym and work out really hard. My weight is creeping up again. Pooh!
My mind does not want to believe the awfulness that will be visited on us. Dictators sometimes take a long time to fall. Let’s hope the incoming one doesn’t take a long time.
Wishing a good day to all at the Pond!
It’s 34 heading for 44 and while it was sunny when I got up the clouds are already moving in. Yesterday we generated 1.4 KWHs and the m-t-d at 51.7 is not on track. And looks like it’ll lose more ground today. Sigh.
Groggy, stiff, and slow. That’s probably a “cut and paste” until next June. Late May anyway. Did grocery shopping yesterday. Got everything on my list and only 2 things not on my list. I call that a win. LOL. Also got the car on the carport for the first time since last May. And with the car on the cement carport instead of the gravel driveway I noticed the tires are low. I’ll air them up today because I want to go to Tractor Supply tomorrow. But for now I need to be about my boosting day. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
Good morning, meeses! Tuesday …
It is 45 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 59. Sunny skies are in the forecast.
I have to take my walk and then head out for some errands.
See all y’all later!
Good morning. Late check in, just a frazzled sort of morning. On my way to the holiday party for work. It’s much colder than yesterday & I’ve been listening to the wind howling around my apartment all day.
Good morning, 40 and cloudy outside my windows today. The tree is in the house and packages are ready to mail, whew! My inner elf is slow this year but that’s ok. RonK just left to take some salmon spawning photos and to mail the packages. I’ll finish my tea, play a game or two of solitaire and then decide what to do next. Best wishes to all.
Good morning Meese. 56 here today and raining – the rest of the week will be back in the 30’s.
Puerto Rico
Good morning. It got into the 30s — first freeze for areas outside of town, I didn’t cover my plants, counting on that “urban heat island” thing. Set out thermals for tomorrow’s walk, that’s gonna hurt. I see the news is all the same awfulness.
