Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.
Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).
The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.
So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?

NOTE: The comments page will split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. Good blissfully slow Saturday morning, Meese! Clear, blustery, and very cold this day, 26 F. at 9:30 a.m., going up to 35 F. if we’re lucky.
Yesterday I waited all day for the UPS guy, who must be 2 meters tall if he’s a centimeter, to pick up the damaged printer and deliver the new one. He cheerfully informed me that he’s learned never to order something that delicate on line, but to go to a local store and get it. That’s good for him, he’s a strong young man, but Dearly and I are old and frail as hail.Also, we have a small car so the box wouldn’t fit in. At any rate, Joshua will come on Tuesday to install it so that will be good–if the printer is not damaged, that is.
One is so tech-averse! This weekend I have to watch three YouTube videos: one on how to set up an Apple watch; one that a friend sent me about his granddaughter, the Princess; and one about the musical we’re going to do in the spring, “Crazy for You.”
Elder Son and Ethan are coming over for tea and dinner because DIL is having a Girls’ Night Out. It’ll be nice to see them again.
Every morning before breakfast I weigh myself wearing as little as poss. Between 1 January 2024 and 1 January 2025 I’ve lost 10 pounds. It must be all that treadmilling, because I certainly haven’t stopped eating. Today, if I do nothing else I’ll go to the gym and properly punish myself by doing everything I can–stepping 75 times on the step, and the 12-3-30 on ye olde treadmylle.
M’Daughter’s cat died last night. She was 15 years old. I must write M’Daughter a note of condolence. Olive was pure black with green eyes. The chihuahuas won’t miss her, but my poor daughter will.
Well, that’s enough from me! Wishing a good day to all at the Pond. Did you ever hear the joke about what a world without men would be like? “No crime and lots of fat, happy women!” Don’t know that I completely agree, but I certainly wouldn’t miss the patriarchs.
It’s 40 going up to 45 and overcast. The PV system is on but barely. Yesterday we generated 7.66 KWHs and the m-t-d is 22 – on track with a little to spare but it probably won’t be by tonight. Definitely won’t be by tomorrow night since it’s supposed to be cloudy tomorrow too.
Apparently my oven died last night. As in the igniter, while coming on, isn’t getting hot enough for the gas to stay on. Last time it just needed cleaning. Which cost me $200. The time before I had to replace the igniter. That was $300, trouble getting the part, and a warning that they weren’t making them any longer so the likelihood of replacing it again is slim. At least it was only while I was baking potato wedges. Those I could & did finish up in the toaster oven. But I’ll be without muffin bread until I fix or replace the oven. If I do the latter, it will be with a countertop convection oven. I can’t afford a new kitchen stove/range and I don’t want one. I like dumb appliances and the last time I looked all the gas ranges out there were “smart”. Not exactly a first world problem – I could definitely cook my food without baking anything – but not exactly not either. I’ll discuss it with my son when he gets home. Meanwhile, there’s boosting to do. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
Sorry about your oven, bfitz, but your plan sounds like a good one.
I remembe4r when our oven died when we were living at home. Don, Trevor, and I sat around the dinner table, moaning and groaning about the fact that we had no oven. Our soon-to-be daughter-in-law said, “In China nobody has oven.” Well, that suits them, but it didn’t suit us. We went out and bought a stove that had a small upper oven and a larger lower oven. Sigh. I miss it still.
Howeve4r, I’m one of the few who cooks here. One lady told me she kept shoes in her oven because she’d never turned it on in all the time she’s lived here.
Sorry for all the 4s. Time to get these wretched nails clipped!
Good morning, 39 with snow and rain showers in Bellingham today. I’ve been absent, from the pond and honestly from daily life as well. I have plans but energy to actually do something more than the basics seems to be missing. However everyday is a new possibility so I’ll see what I can manage to do today. As always, my best wishes to all.
