Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.
Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).
The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.
So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?
…
NOTE: The comments page will split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page (right before “Leave A Reply”) and use the Pages Tool to view previous pages, shown here with 3 pages of comments available and Page 2 circled.

Good morning, 30 and mostly sunny in Bellingham today. I see my new doc this afternoon so have stopped all otc meds so he will see/hear symptoms as they are. So I’m coughing more now but overall feel a bit better. I don’t think I have a bacterial infection but I do have asthma so a new inhaler should help me breathe better. The good news is that my knees are not throbbing because I’m too sick to walk very much. Small mercies :) Best wishes to all.
Good afternoon, meeses! Wednesday …
It is 55 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 64. Sunny skies are in the forecast. It was 37 degrees when I got up and dropped to 35 before the sun came out. I saw the moon in the ESE sky this morning at 4am! Blessed be.
I was busy this morning but got my walk in and now I am hungry.
See all y’all later!
Thursday Meese. 13 degrees here in Kingston, which is better than -4 yesterday.
Puerto Rico
Good morning. I’m too much of a cold wimp to run before work. I set my phone to remind me every hour to run after; trying to short-circuit the excuses my mind will come up with during the day. Anyway, hi.
Good Thursday morning, Meese! The golden light behind the stark gray winter woods as the sun rises behind them is a thrilling sight. Some of the tree limbs still bear traces of the snow that fell a few days ago, and the sky is a perfect, frozen blue. The outside temperature is 7 F., gradually working its way up to 35 F. at 3 p.m.
Good on yer, Jan, for seeing the Moon. I may catch a glimpse since I’ll be out and about tomorrow night.
Yesterday evening the second audition for “Crazy for You” was held. I dressed up for the part I wanted, Irene, in a navy blue-and-brown tweed jacket over a navy blue sheath, with a navy blue fascinator hat with veil, stockings, and black (short-heeled) pumps. By 7 p.m., when the auditions began, “the usual crowd shuffled in.” Lots of old-timers and only one new face—didn’t catch her name. Anyway, the auditions were great fun, although exhausting, and the theater was fuh-REEZING.
And this morning, I was offered the part of Irene, who doesn’t sing! I accepted with gratitude and delight. The first read-through is tomorrow evening at 7:30. Our theater stands on a little rise in the ground, so I may be able to catch a glimpse of the Moon when I go outside to look.
Today at 1 p.m. is the so-called “Winter Wonderland Afternoon Tea.” When will Americans catch on to the fact that a meal at 1 p.m. is LUNCH, not tea? Afternoon tea is never earlier than half-past three, and never later than five p.m., unless one is working class, which has “tea” (supper) at 6 p.m. Oh, well, it should be fun. I’ll wear a hat, although it will be a black one. The navy blue fascinator won’t go with the black jacket and aquamarine blouse. Oh, well, first-world problems!
Our precinct captain has invited us to sign up with various progressive orgs in order to protest against Thing’s blizzard of Executive Orders. I’ve too much going on to do that and anyway, I am weary. Kamala is writing, or has written, a book, of which I will buy many copies, hoping it will become a best seller. I don’t expect she would be elected in 2028 if she runs for POTUS: American men hate women and disgusting white people hate black people, so…
Enough from me this freezing winter morning. Wishing a good day to all at the Pond, especially hoping our princesspat will hear good news from the doctor!
Sadly, hating women is something shared across racial lines among many American men. We won’t see a female president in our lifetime. I wish Biden had resigned when his mental faculties started declining and let Kamala become president to break the glass ceiling. Maybe if people had seen it as normal to have a female commander in chief the right wing wouldn’t have been able to run on the misogyny issue.
It’s “already” 29 heading for 38 today. Yesterday we generated 10.1 KWHs and the m-t-d at 140.3 is on track and gaining.
Yesterday I went to Walmart for kibble and Braum’s for milk. And finally managed to report a water line leak across the street from me that has water streaming down that side of the street in front of my mailbox. It’s been doing that for over a week. At first I thought it was just snowmelt but the snow’s been gone for days and it’s still running. What an exciting life I lead. LOL. Off to start my boosting day. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
Good morning, 27 and partly sunny outside my windows today. I got some needed relief from my new doc yesterday so I’m breathing better this morning. An in office nebulizer treatment, a new asthma inhaler, 2 sinus meds and a 5 day dose of cortisone later I may eventually recover! The clod/flu is viral and takes about 4 weeks to run it’s course but the asthma and a sinus infection is slowing recovery for me. Feeling grateful to be able to breathe again. As always, my best wishes to all.
Thank Goddess you are enjoying some relief, princesspat! My husband has COPD, so I know about the breathing issues. He uses a nebulizer and an inhaler.
Good afternoon, Meeses! Thursday…
It is 55 degrees in Tucson 🌵 on its way up to 58. Mostly sunny skies but windy. I got my walk in and that is all I had planned for today
See all y’all later!
Good Friday morning, Moosekind! As yet it’s too dark to see what kind of day it will be. At least it’s a balmy 23 f. right now in Ashburn, going up to 34 F. later.
It looks as if Grandson Karl will be spending part of the weekend with us, so I must go out to buy some groceries. I’m thinking beef stew and apple crumble for Sunday during the Commanders vs. Eagles game, because those dishes won’t require much attention.
Tonight we actors meet for a read-through of the play. I’m also starting work on “V,” the monologue my friend wants me to write. I need her input on some of my ideas, so I hope she’s not going to leave it all up to me.
Will today be the day I finally make it to the gym? Tune in tomorrow to this same station and see. Meanwhile, wishing all at the Pond a good day!
I did not run yesterday evening. Not even going to think about it this evening.
Good morning. Wimped out on running again. 22 is just too darn cold. Will go for a long run tomorrow. I see that tfg is tfg’ing. Though maybe the Defense Secretary guy is going down. That would be nice.
Yes, it would.
Dear Goddess, that pathetic creature is hateful. Where are the Furies? What are the Fates up to? Atropos, where are you?
I will trade having RFK Jr in HHS for not having that pile of garbage as Defense Secretary. Congress can put guardrails around HHS but they can’t control a Defense Secretary who is 100% loyal only to tRump and will do anything he is asked to do with the active military.
It’s already 24 heading for 48 and even the windchill is supposed to get above freezing today. Yesterday we generated 8.8 KWHs and the m-t-d at 149.2 definitely on track. It’s actually possible to reach 200. We shall see what we shall see.
The only thing that surprises me about what’s going on is that there are people surprised by it. The blatantly evil ones voted for it and are delighted. The covert evils ones also voted for it but are shocked it’s not being done more covertly and quietly. The gullible/stupid ones are shocked because, all evidence to the contrary, they didn’t believe it was going to be done – at least not to them – at all, that it was just rhetoric. The rest of us knew what they were going to as soon as they got into power. That’s why we voted against it.
What is, is. We have to deal with the reality. Community is the only way we get through this. I have boosting to do. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}

Barf!!
Good afternoon, meeses! Friday …
It is 63 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 66. My weather widget says “mostly cloudy” but my eyeballs looking out the window say “clear blue sky.” This morning I saw the waning crescent moon in the ESE sky and she had three stars (or planets?) in a sort of a line to the left of her. It was beautiful!
I am still going news lite, catching glimpses of news snippets on my phone. What kind of psychopath takes the security detail away from a man, Dr. Fauci, who is getting death threats from his fans, many of whom are killers who he just released from prison? Goddess help us.
I saw two roadrunners on my walk this morning, making it an A+ walk.
See all y’all later!
Good afternoon, 27 and mostly sunny outside my windows today. RonK felt well enough to do a larger grocery shopping so we have planned some easy meals to get us through the next few days. With both of us being so sick at the same time it’s clear we need to rethink how we will continue living here. But that’s topic for another day…..we just need food and clean laundry today. And I need to stay news lite. It’s just been 4 days and the rambling old fool is more that I can tolerate. I share your wish re Harris Jan. Had Biden resigned she would have had a much better chance of being POTUS now. Reality sucks! Oh well, time to escape into a book and solitaire. As always, my best wishes to all.
I can’t believe that “defunding FEMA” polls well even among Dump’s cretinous followers. A bigger problem than the doddering old fool being in the Oval Office is that one of the two major political parties in our country put him there and is just fine with it. I was trying to think “what would cause the Republican Congress to turn on him and remove him from office?” Really, there is nothing. And that is frightening.
Good morning, meeses! Saturday …
It is 50 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 70. Partly sunny skies are in the forecast. I could not see the moon this morning as there are streaks of clouds over the mountains right where she would be expected to be.
My news light resolution unfortunately can’t extend to breaking news that streams across my phone; I don’t have to click on the link but the headline exists whether I want it to or not. The Senate confirmed Hogsbreath (with a Vance tie-breaker) and now Dumpie has a Fox News host in charge of the largest military force on the planet. There is no doubt that a mentally unbalanced dotard will use that military force illegally and immorally and there is nothing that anyone can do.
I have some queued up accounting that I need to get done today so that I can focus on three must-do client projects tomorrow. I had three emergency projects inserted into my schedule this week and it has set me back some. Thank goodness for weekends!
See all y’all later!
Good morning. Glad I didn’t have time to uncover my plants yesterday, because it didn’t just freeze last night, it’s 22 degrees. Do need to uncover them today, though. Going to kickboxing then run in the park. Making next week’s lunch, but that won’t take long; and by then it’ll be time for the music diary at the orange place. I’m not hosting, no no idea what it’ll be.
Good morning. Posted
Good Saturday morning, Meese! It’s 23 F. in Ashburn right now, going up to 39 F. later. We have our usual lovely Arctic morning with blue skies, slowly disappearing snow, and sunlight. Yesterday I did go to Trader Joe’s to stock up. I only buy half-a-dozen eggs at a time, but they’d gone up 50 cents.
Jan, I’m glad you saw Herself recently. I haven’t been able to, and besides, despite our clear mornings, clouds move in at night.
I’m tired this morning but must get moving pretty soon as Grandson is expected to come today for a sleepover. Last night we had a good read-through of the play, although a couple of people were missing, don’t know why. The read-through ended at 9, after which we had a board meeting re the purchase of new microphones. They’re expensive! Still, the Drama Club Treasury can afford it. By the time I came home I was exhausted and had to flake out.
The good news is that I just ordered Dearly’s Valentine’s present! I hope both parts of it will arrive on time. Feeling positively ill about Hegseth, pissed at the March for Life (y’all got what you wanted, so STFU), and not looking forward to anything except the game tomorrow. Dearly doesn’t think the Commies will win. I’m making slow cooker beef stew and apple crumble, so we can watch the game without a lot of bother on my part. Gods, meat is EXPENSIVE! At TJ’s, they wanted $20.00 for a pound and a half of stewing beef, but at Giant I found a package of slightly less than a pound for just under $10. That’ll do us.
I think Dearly is having his post-breakfast nap, which means I must be quiet and refrain from making noise such as emptying the dishwasher and doing laundry. No problemo!
Wishing a good day to all at the Pond with no bad news.
It’s already 43 heading for 52 and mostly sunny. Yesterday we generated 9.77 KWHs and the m-t-d at 159 is definitely on track to something good.
We’ve got a spate of warmer weather the next 10 days, 40s & 50s for highs and only 2 of the lows below freezing. It won’t last of course. We’ve still got February to get through. Unsettling dreams last night. Well, we’re in unsettling times. And nothing I can do about it but keep on keepin’ on. Speaking of which, I’d best get to my boosting. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
