Week-long Welcomings from Moosylvania: February 16th

Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.

Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).

The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.

So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?

NOTE: The comments page will split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page (right before “Leave A Reply”) and use the Pages Tool to view previous pages, shown here with 3 pages of comments available and Page 2 circled.

  1. Good afternoon, meeses! Tuesday …

It is 75 degrees in Tucson 🌵 and the sun is shining brightly. I saw the moonlight on my deck this morning and craned my neck to see her just behind some high clouds. I think tomorrow morning I will see her.

Another busy day spend being busy.

    See all y’all later!

  2. Good morning, meeses! Wednesday …

It is 48 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 73. Mostly sunny skies are in the forecast. This morning I saw the moon – unimpeded by clouds and the edge of my roof. She is still quite bright, at about 62% illumination, but waning.

Today is when we may find out if the melon and the felon have decided that the only way to suss out the “tens of millions” of dead people who are collecting Social Security is to turn off everyone’s direct deposits and see who complains. I really and truly wonder if the Republican Congress would decide that was too much. I actually think that they won’t. It is a cult and a cult is run on fear of the leader, not fear of anyone else’s displeasure. What is really sad is that apparently they did discover in an audit last year that 44,000 dead people have not had their Social Security has not been shut off. That became tens of millions in the conspiracy-addled brains of the MAGAts. All I know is that a lot of automatic payments rely on on-time SSA deposits and it will be a cascading clusterfk for the olds if the payments are delayed while they wait for a court order to release the money should they shut it off.

Trumpers are cutting a deal with Putin for the United States to go neutral on the Ukraine War. I hope Europe can fill the gap. Goddess help us if they can’t or won’t. It is really uncomfortable to live in a pariah nation, despised by our former allies and everyone who believes in caring for the world’s poor and sick is a sacred obligation that richer nations have.

I have to get back to work. One of the projects I have been working on – and thought was finished – hit a snag and I have to figure out a workaround before I can move to the other hot project which is promised for today.

    See all y’all later!

  3. !! degrees here in Kingston :(
    Puerto Rico

    • Perfectly bloody capitalists! The Natives had the right idea. We belong to the Earth and She to us.

      The Earth is our Mother
We must take care of Her
      The Earth is our Mother
We must take care of Her…

  4. Good morning. It is beyond freezing this morning, and strong winds also. The morning news is all about the weather, and how to deal with it. We’re even having snow flurries. (okay, you have to look really hard to see them, but that’s quite exciting for central Texas) So glad I have wfh today, not looking forward to tomorrow.

  5. Good Wednesday morning, Moosekind! It’s gray and ugly here in Ashburger, and 19 F., if you please. It’ll get up to 30 F. or so. Imaginary snowflakes will begin tonight.

Y’all, I got MAH SOCIAL! Thank Goddess they haven’t cut it off yet! Bfitz and I receive ours on the same day, so I’m assuming and hoping she has received hers as well.

Dearly needs the car this morning to go to Navy Fed and browbeat them into fixing his sign-on. I will be at home putting the finishing touches on Irene’s autobiography, looking over my article—it needs more words, but perhaps I can get some good quotes at the meeting on Friday—and of course, studying my part. Need to go to the gym after that high-cholesterol breakfast.

Did you know the Felon has signed an EO saying the law is what he says it is? Like…WHAT? We here at the Home for the Aged live in a bubble, although we’re cognizant of the horrors happening elsewhere. I think many of us feel, as we’re in our 80s and likely to pop our clogs any minute, we might as well enjoy life while we can. It sounds a bit callous, I know, but lawks, darlings, I did everything my feeble old bod could do last year, trying to get Kamala elected, and I’m just out of mojo. When I think of what we COULD have had…aw, shucks.

Wishing a good day to all at the Pond!

  6. It’s 4 heading for 16 and overcast although I can see a few streaks of pale blue to the northwest. Yesterday we managed a third of a kilowatt hour before the snow cover the panels. Since there is now around 6″ of snow on the panels we won’t be getting any production today. Or tomorrow. And possibly not until next week when the temps will be in the 60s. We’re at 102.74 so the likelihood of getting to 180 by end of month is slim.

    Because of the snow my credit union isn’t open yet. I hope it’s just late opening and not closed today. Since I don’t have online banking set up I don’t know if my Social Security came in. But since Diana got hers I’m betting I got mine. Aashirs nani also gets hers today and she does have online banking. I’m sure she’d have emailed me if hers hadn’t show up. So. I’ll try to call the credit union again later in the day. At least the snow is fluffy enough I could sweep if from the back step and get some birdseed out. And at least the cardinals, chickadees, juncos, and woodpeckers got to eat before the starlings showed up. So. I’d best get to my boosting. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Energy for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}

    • Even if you don’t have online banking, you should be able to get them to set up an email or text notification for certain transactions. I have notifications if there is a deposit over a certain amount and for withdrawals over a certain amount. Then I don’t have to log into my online account to find out that I got my Social Security deposit or if my rent payment posted, for example.

    • Well duh, even though the credit union is closed for bad weather, I was able to go to my SSA account and see that my last payment was today. I’m golden.

  7. Good morning, 39 and cloudy in Bellingham, and I’m officially 80 yrs old. RonK made me a lovely forest arrangement using moss, lichen, cedar, twigs and snowberries. He is having fun finding his creativity and I love it! Our son is cooking dinner this evening and the family has a birthday lunch planned for Saturday so I’ll have plenty of birthday fun. As always my best wishes to all.

  8. Good morning. It is crazy cold, so no I did not walk before work. Maybe next week. In the office, which is much warmer than my apartment — my heater was kicking on quite often just to keep it at 67. Anyway, I’m here, it’s warm inside and I have good food to eat so I’m much better off than many.

  9. The air temp has just gotten above zero. The windchill hasn’t. But it’s supposed to get up to 22 today. It’s sunny at least at the moment. Wonderful for my mood even if there won’t be any more electricity production until the snow is off my PV panels. The m-t-d is stuck at 102.7 for awhile.

Everything in this town seems to be closed except my son’s grab-n-go pizza store in the old dorm quadrant dining hall. He’s selling a lot of pizzas to the students in residence. But if the campus cops don’t take down the barricades and let his supply truck through today (it was due yesterday but couldn’t get to him) he won’t have anything left to sell/feed those kids with by tomorrow. Campus security & maintenance, in their cars and vans, just go up on the sidewalk and around the barricades. But the food truck is a real truck – supplies multiple food service venues – and has several pallets worth of pizza ingredients for him.

    The sunshine is lovely but it’s still cold enough to make me very slow and creaky. Oh well. Off to start my boosting day. Holding the Good/Healing Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}

  10. Good Thursday morning, Meese! It’s 23 F. outside and won’t get up past 30 F. today. That six-to-eight-inch snowfall? Ha! I drove through snow flurries to the grocery store yesterday, but it was just wet spots on the windshield. It did not stick. It didn’t even last. This morning we were supposed to see .2 inches of the white stuff—ha again! The SUN is out and the sky is blue with white clouds. They always get it so wrong!

I bet the parents are furious because of unnecessary school closings. Well, anyway, today is not quite such a marvelous day because I learned that one of my neighbors died last night. She was in hospice care upstairs on the fourth floor. I didn’t know her really well, but what I did know, I liked very much. One has to get used to this, living where we do.

In happier news, can’t think of any on the personal level. I do have to put the finishing touches on some things. Tomorrow will be very busy indeed.

Did you see yesterday where Felon said he was a KING? He truly is a demented psychopath. I was going to have my writers write a flash fiction horror story in May, but now I’m afraid we’re living in one!

Wishing a good day to all at the Pond.

  11. Good morning, 45 and mostly cloudy outside my windows today. Yesterday was fun with a visit to the museum, family phone calls and chats, and dinner at our son’s house. Elsa had a steak too so she was very happy :) It is so good to finally feel better but I’m really tired this morning so today needs to be an easy day.
Ron is driving with a friend to White Rock, BC to pick up his blood thinner med at a pharmacy there. They have been mailing the drugs but now there is a hold up because of customs so I hope he can bring the meds back across the border with no hassle. The cost of refilling in Canada is significantly less than here so I hope he can make it all work.
Thanks for the birthday wishes, helps me ease into being 80 :) As always, my best wishes to all.

  12. Good afternoon, meeses! Thursday …

It is 75 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 77. Sunny skies are in the forecast. Even though I slept longer than I usually do, the moon was still visible high in the ESE sky.

I had a fasting blood test this morning so it threw off my schedule quite a bit. I think I got enough work done to satisfy clients so I am going to shut down my computer and sit and veg out. My Arizona Wildcats Women’s Basketball team won yesterday evening and the softball team starts a 4 day tournament here in Tucson. MLB Spring Training games start on Saturday for the team I follow (Milwaukee Brewers) but they won’t be on TV. It is nice to have sports to distract me and keep me from doom scrolling.

    See all y’all later!
