Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.
Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).
The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.
So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?
…
NOTE: The comments page will split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page (right before “Leave A Reply”) and use the Pages Tool to view previous pages, shown here with 3 pages of comments available and Page 2 circled.

Good “morning”, Motley Meese! The week begins …
Morning low of 45 degrees in the Desert Southwest 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 75. Sunny skies are in the forecast.
Have a great day, all y’alls!!
27 here in Kingston, going up to 41, which I hope will melt the ice skating rink in my driveway.

AOC is turning out to be an important voice of the resistance. She is fearless and will tread where Senate Democrats fear to go.
Finally not freezing! Okay, a week of overnight freezes might not sound like much to y’all, but as the weather people have been saying, we live in Texas because we don’t like that cold stuff. I’m going to uncover my plants this afternoon. We’re past the date of our average last freeze so I may even un-scrunch them and put them on my shelves and stands. Meanwhile, I’m enjoying the smell of my steeping tea and watching the local news.

Good Sunday morning, Moosekind! It’s clear and sunny here in Ashburn, 38 F. right now and going up to 49 f. We’re supposed to have a warm-up and no precip. for 9 days. Typical.
Have had a frantic two days, running back and forth, working on the autobiography of my character in the play—Irene—visiting a band of angels at one of their thrice-yearly meetings, and being fitted for costumes. Ladies, the costumers have fitted me with two of the most beautiful dresses I’ve ever seen in my life! They are going to buy opera gloves and dye them royal blue to match the dress I’m wearing in the first scene. The second dress, which I’ll wear for the rest of the play, is a print that swirls around my legs as I walk. It’s gorgeous! I hope the guy who’s playing my (eventual) husband will faint when he sees it.
Friday night during Rehearsal, all 22 of us in the cast presented our characters’ backstories. I wore a brown wig and the most “Western” looking outfit I could pull from my wardrobe. We weren’t required to come in costume, but I wanted to lend verisimilitude to my character in Deadrock, Nevada. I kept my presentation to three minutes, made sure it was pertinent to the plot, and left ’em laughing at the end. Received lots of applause, etc. My future hubby showed up in the outfit he wore for “Oklahoma!” last year, including a Stetson. LOL.
Must finish the angels’ story today. These are women who knit, sew, crochet, and quilt baby items for babies born to indigent women. They displayed the items they’d made in the last month or so, and I had the photographer there to take pictures of the women and the baby-related items. I’m hoping this story will be well received.
Breakfast has been cooked and eaten, and I’m hoping to go to a concert this afternoon, so I’d better sign off for now. I’m as apoplectic as anyone else over the cruelty of the Melon and the Felon, but I can’t think about it today. I’ve stopped doomscrolling on my phone during breakfast so I can focus on “mindful eating.” I think it helps a bit.
Wishing a nice, peaceful Sunday to all at the Pond!
It was 24 at dawn, 47 now, heading for 56, and sunny. We don’t have anything below freezing in the 10-day forecast. And Tuesday’s high is (currently) showing at 73! Still a lot of snow on the solar panels but we’re getting some generation. Yesterday we got enough to push the m-t-d from 102.7 to 103. We’re got 6 days left to try and catch up in.
Not doomscrolling is how I stay as close to sane as I happen to be. I don’t want to unload anxiety/panic attacks on my kids. They’ve got their own problems/lives/families to deal with. And not doomscrolling lets me concentrate on what I can do – which is boosting. So now I’ve finished my Sunday chores and breakfast, I’d best be about it. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
Good morning, meeses! Monday …
It is 52 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 81. Mostly sunny skies are in the forecast. The moon was not up when I made my first visit to my porch but I just checked again and she is a very pretty waning crescent just above the edge of the mountains to the ESE. She will be new on Thursday at 5:44pm MST.
I was laughing at JD Vance and border ghoul Tom Homan, Republican “Catholics”, lecturing the Pope on Catholic doctrine, essentially telling him to stay in his own lane. The Pope says that Catholic doctrine does not say “fk the immigrants because they are not part of my family or my community”! I hope that the Pope hangs on just to be a thorn in the sides of Republican Catholics who have always despised him because he is a caring person and calls out hypocrisy. They need cover to cherry pick the Bible and the New Testament to give themselves permission to start wars of choice, support the death penalty, led the sick die, arrest the homeless and starve the hungry.
I have many things to do today and because the list is long I am going to start at the top and work my way down instead of trying to do 10 things at once and getting none of them done. I have to get my car into the shop later this morning as I discovered a nail embedded in one of the tires when I was filling them up for a planned trip. The tire was quite low and the nail was definitely holding the air in as I loosened it a bit and heard the air escaping. Pushing it back in stopped the leak temporarily but I don’t want to go anywhere, except to the tire shop, until it is repaired.
See all y’all later!
Good morning. Since it’s not in the 20s anymore, I went back to walking before work. Just a walk, since it’s been a few days, and it is cold. Had a terrible night’s sleep. Maybe being in the office today is good, all the noise will help keep me awake all day. Anyway, hi — happy Monday.
It’s already 48 and heading for 66 today. And sunny at the moment. Yesterday the snow was melted off the solar panels by early afternoon and we generated 7.1 KWHs. The m-t-d is 110, a long way from what the 1st few days of the month gave hopes of. With 5 days left in February getting to 180 is probably not possible but we could get close.
My son will be over sometime this morning to bring back the Subaru. Which is good as I’ve got last week’s errand and this week’s errands to run. Since said errands are in 2 different directions I’m planning to do one lot today and the other tomorrow. But we shall see. Meanwhile I’d best be about my boosting day. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
Good morning, 45, mostly cloudy with rain later today. I had a very fun birthday weekend and now its Monday, ready or not. Oh well, real life is often days of mundane chores and I’m grateful to still be doing them! So paying bills, doing laundry and going to the dentist will fill my day, and eating leftover birthday cake will be my tasty treat. Best wishes to all.
Good Monday afternoon, squirrels! The sun is out, the sky is blue, the temperature here in Ashburn is 53 F.—the only thing wrong with the weather is the wretched wind. It’s already blown all the furniture on the porch around.
It was another busy morning. We did errands, including getting an emissions check for the car. Because we did that, I have all the paperwork necessary to renew my driver’s license next week.
Went to a concert yesterday. Oh, mah GODDESS, it was SO BAD! They sang off key and played the guitar off key. Never again! I plan to write my musical friend about it, as he is recovering from a heart attack and temporarily unable to attend concerts. He himself is the Drama Club’s resident musician, and sometimes gives his own concerts in the square behind our building in the summer.
What else—have nearly finished the band of angels story, just need to make the interviewee’s revisions. I’m not needed for Rehearsal tonight, as it’s a music rehearsal. That’s okay, I’ll study the script. Tonight I have the UU dinner, so I’ll need to get ready for that before too long.
The grocery store where I bought the sandwiches for lunch has hot cross buns for sale! I simply couldn’t resist buying a package of them. Dearly and I adore them.
Roberta Flack has died. I think she had been ill for years. Oh, how I loved her music! “Killing me softly,” “Tonight I celebrate my love for you” with Peabo Bryson, and others. I bet Aretha and Tina are welcoming her with a big smile up there on the front porch of heaven.
That’s all from me today. Wishing a good day to everyone at the Pond!
Tuesday Meese. 32 here in Kingston going up to 48. No new Puerto Rico news this morning.Will keep looking
Good morning. Yesterday was very long. So glad I’m wfh today. Just hoping I have a normal day instead of yesterday’s overwhelming flood.
It’s 56 heading for 74 and sunny at the moment. Yesterday we generate the highest for the month & year so far – 14.68 KWHs which brought the m-t-d to 125. The lowest/cloudiest February we’ve had was 125.1 in 2019 and we’ve still got 4 production days left. So that’s good.
My son wasn’t able to get the Subaru back to me until last night after dark which changed me running errands plans. I’m out of milk so today I’ll do Walmart & Braums as planned but the credit union & library I meant to do yesterday will be tomorrow. Today is the highest high for the 10-day forecast (which is why I’m shifting laundry until tomorrow – I may not have a fire this evening) but the rest of the time will still be in the 60s tapering down to 50s. And the overnights will still be above freezing. Fine weather for running errands. Meanwhile, off to start my boosting day. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
Bonjour, mes amis! I’m so excited! My friends from Montreal, whom I haven’t seen since July 2019, are on their way to see us even as I write. Wish it had been a nicer day for them: it’s overcast this morning, 51 F. on its way to 61 F.
Hoping for a fairly low-key day. I might go to the gym later. I do need to study the play. I sent the article off to the managing editors. I saw my friend S. at the UU dinner last night, and we agreed that writing an article is just like the feeling you had in high school when you hadn’t done your homework. Such a relief to have it over!
Well, it’s almost 10:30, so I’d better stop. Wishing a good day to everyone at the Pond! Blessed be.
Good morning, meeses! Tuesday …
It is 72 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 82. Sunny skies are in the forecast. There was a pretty waning crescent moon (at about 7% illumination) over my mountains this morning. I will be taking by walk soon and see if I can see her thinness in the bright blue sky.
I spent yesterday dealing with car deferred maintenance issues and this morning was spent dealing with two client crises while trying to get accounting work done to close out this shortened month. I am going to close all my open windows except for what I absolutely have to get done today and finish them when I get back from my walk.
See all y’all later!
Good morning, 49 and partly cloudy. I woke up to wind and rain but now I see some blue sky and that’s motivating me to do something outdoors if I can. As I suspected I need to have a tooth pulled so scheduling that comes first. When the tooth is gone I can complete the implant for a neighboring tooth and that will make everything more comfortable. I’m staying news lite today and listening to classical music on CBC. One of the perks of living so close to Canada are the radio programs…..less focus on thing 1 is needed! As always, my best wishes to all.
Good morning, meeses! Wednesday …
It is 55 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 81. Mostly sunny skies are in the forecast.
There is not much to say other than that life is going to get infinitely worse for a lot of people soon. The only question is if someone can convince red state representatives, in the House and Senate, that letting their people die is not a good thing. The power of the cult is strong, is it that strong? I was glad to see that Macron is considering a nuclear shield for Ukraine, refusing to let the Felon cut a deal with Putin that neuters NATO and hands a sovereign nation over to Russia.
I need to put my nose to the grindstone and get my taxes filed before the government shuts down. It does not matter that I owe money, if the tax return does not get filed and the taxes due paid, my account will look like it is in arrears. I do not need that hassle.
See all y’all later!
The site is down due to a 503 attack. I am not sure when it will be back up.
Back up. We are probably not out of the woods yet – I am looking for a permanent solution.
Good to be back in! It’s 66 heading for 67 and sunny at the moment but the widget says clouds will be moving in soon. Yesterday we generated 13.95 KWHs which brought the m-t-d to 139. We’ll see what today brings.
I’ve got rats. There’s only one place it’s possible for a rat to get under my house and apparently they found it. I heard one gnawing/scrabbling inside the wall behind the washing machine yesterday after the cats drew my attention to it. My son is going to bring traps. We’re going to try live trapping and taking them out to Lake Weddington where they may make nice dinners for the hawks and foxes. Kill traps are less trouble but I don’t want to eat rats. I certainly don’t want to poison them. They’d either die and decompose under my house & in the walls or get out and get eaten by hawks which would then kill the hawks.
I’ve errands to do today. Also laundry. But first I’ve got to finish getting the first round of boosting done. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Energy for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
I am glad you got logged in! I am not sure how to stop what happened from happening again but I do have a quicker workaround than this morning’s workaround. It was not how I planned to spend my morning but it is what it is.
Rats are a huge problem – you certainly do not want them tangling with your cats. I hope you can block whatever was allowing them in.
Thanks again for all your work. Yeah, rats are scary. I know the hole they got in by. It’s in a metal plate so I’m not sure how to block it but I’ll figure out something. First up is getting rid of the ones already in.
