Week-long Welcomings from Moosylvania: March 9th

Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.

Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).

The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.

So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?

NOTE: The comments page will split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page (right before “Leave A Reply”) and use the Pages Tool to view previous pages, shown here with 3 pages of comments available and Page 2 circled.

  1. So yesterday sucked. We all have to be back in the office 5 days a week starting mid-April. I really thought our management would fight for us. I have a tab open for the retirement system, reading up on those steps; and I worked for the City for 5 years so I have something there, emailed that system to ask for info. So here I am in the office; 4 more weeks of this schedule then however long of 5 days until I leave.

    • That sucks galaxies through a straw, another. NOTHING is better than working from home, unless, of course, it’s retirement!

      Good luck in your endeavors.

  2. Good morning, meeses! Thursday …

    It is 52 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 65. Partly cloudy skies are in the forecast. I did not see any stars this morning but I did hear an owl hooing. Last night the nearly full moon was magnificent rising over the mountains during alpenglow time and then bright in the night sky.

    I made the mistake of looking at the news headlines yesterday and was disgusted to see that the Democrats in the Senate are willing to hand over more power to the Felon to fk up our economy with his tariffs. Clean short CR without the added powers or we are the chumpiest chumps in the world. The Republicans don’t care if our economy crashes, they will be protected by the oligarchs – this will be 1000 times worse than Bush’s Recession because no one – really, no one – will be working to make things better until 2029. Goddess help us.

    I have many things I promised to do today so I need to get to it. I am hoping to get a nap in so that I can stay up to see the lunar eclipse tonight.

    See all y’all later!

  3. It’s 58 heading for 81 and sunny at the moment. Yesterday clouds moved in during the afternoon. We generated 13.1 KWHs and the m-t-d at 164.8 lost a little more ground. It may be possible to catch up today but it’s not likely.

    Sinusitis flare last night so diddly sleep. But it did see, not the moon herself, but a glowing ball of fuzzy light through the cloud cover a little after dark. Groggy, stiff, and slow today. Sigh. Trying to keep my anxiety tamped down. As a rehab guy I used to know always said, “work is the best distraction”. My work is boosting folks. So I’d best get to it. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}

  4. Good gray Thursday morning, Meese! Actually, these overcast skies and cold temperatures seem quite restful. The weather gurus have been going on and on about how “warm” it is—high 50s and windy as hail are “warm”?–nah, but we’ll see.

    Used my friend’s recipe for gingerbread this morning. It just came out of the oven and Meese, I’m telling you it smells heavenly! Can’t wait to feed it to my writers a couple of hours from now.

    Have celebrated so intensely the last couple of days, I’m plumb wore out. However, the people at my building’s Morning Coffee sang “Happy Birthday” to me yesterday, as did the entire cast of “Crazy for You” after Rehearsal last night. Flowers, cards, and chocolates arrived all day long, so it was wonderful. Elder Son will cook corned beef and cabbage for me on Sunday, and darling DIL will make sure there is a carrot cake for afters.

    Keep meaning to tell y’all—on Monday my grandson defended his dissertation and NOW he has a Ph.D! He loves living in the Twin Cities, and is getting out more now that it’s warming up a bit. He already has a steady girlfriend and he’s only been there a few months. With his parents in Massachusetts and sibling in Ohio, he’s much closer than he was in Austin.

    Daughter, SIL, and dogs are now holidaying somewhere around Cape May, NJ. It is in NJ, isn’t it? Anyway they just had to go somewhere warmer for a while so the dogs could have a run.

    It’s fuh-REEZING! We’ve been having clear skies, so when I come out of the building after rehearsal I see her, nearly full. She looks glorious! Of course I won’t get to see her tonight, very likely, or tomorrow night, but at least I’ve seen something of Her this month.

    Oh, I’m so tired! First-world problem, though. Must go boil some water in case someone has a baby!*

    Wishing a good day to all at the Pond.

    *No, really it’s to put in the thermos. I’m giving my writers the choice of having Ginger-Lemon tea to go with their gingerbread, if they choose.

  5. Good morning, 41 and partly sunny in Bellingham, so nice to see some blue sky. My throbbing tooth is gone but now I’m recovering from the extreme nausea caused by the anesthesia, antibiotic, and pain meds. Just a few more days of meds and then I should be ok. If I can focus I want to find a book and just get lost in a story today because reality is no fun! Best wishes to all.

  6. Good morning, meeses! Friday, Pi Day …

    It is 39 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 54. Mostly cloudy skies are in the forecast. I did not see the full moon last night but we did see some nice rainbows during an afternoon and evening rainstorm. We needed the rain more than I needed to see the full moon. I woke up early, unable to sleep, and thought I might be able to see the lunar eclipse but it was either where I could not see it or was blocked by clouds. It was not meant to be.

    I am of two minds about the government shutdown. I do think that the price the Democrats are paying to avoid the shutdown is too high – apparently it gives the Felon more flexibility to put his petty tariffs on people who make him angry PLUS it is going to be bad for Washington DC, it sounds like it will devastate their budget. That said, shutting down the government and letting the Felon and the Melon decide which things to keep open would be a very bad idea. Right now the courts are dealing with a bunch of the layoffs and outright firings and that will only continue playing out if the Continuing Resolution passes and the government stays open. I am hoping that the headline “Stocks Tumble Into Correction as Investors Sour on Trump” makes a few Republican electeds at least pause and wonder WTAF they have gotten themselves into and maybe the September budget won’t be nearly as bad. I guess they don’t need donors because the Melon Husk has a bajillion dollar PAC that is feathering their nests for reelection but how long will that be enough? They did reject the RatFKjr anti-vaxxer pal for the CDC post so maybe there are cracks in the cult. I guess we will find out.

    I got two hard deadline projects done in the early morning so I am now down to one that I would really REALLY like to get out the door before the weekend. It was promised for Thursday morning and one day late will be acceptable but three days late will require a “it’s going to be late” email which I want to avoid.

    See all y’all later!

  7. Good morning. Hoping that Schumer discovers his spine. We should change his name to Chamberlain. Happy Pi Day, anyway — we have to find joy where we can.

  8. Good gray Friday morning, Moosekind! Right now it’s 41 F. in Ashburned, with a predicted high of 50s. We’ll see. Apparently we won’t get any rain until Sunday, right in the middle of the corned beef and cabbage Elder Son is planning to cook for me. If we get more than four drops of rain, I’ll be surprised.

    In other news, my writers LOVED the gingerbread and lemon curd I served them yesterday. We had a great time discussing everyone’s free verse. My group decided they don’t want a new member, so we’ll keep the fact of our vacancy quiet. I reminded them that April is Shakespeare month: we’ll have a cake, and a prize will be awarded to the person who can prove he or she has spent at least 10 consecutive minutes thinking about Shakespeare since April 23rd, 2024. In May we’re going to do flash fiction again.

    Today’s agenda—attend the International Women’s Day thing next door in the theater, have lunch, have NAP, study lines for rehearsal. I have a scene with the guy who is supposed to be my fiance, and with the guy I actually end up marrying in the play. After that, I need to go home and toss documents in the Shred Box because the Shred Truck is coming tomorrow.

    Wishing a good day to all at the Pond!

  9. It’s 71 going to 78 and sunny at the moment. The forecast for rain has gone away. The forecast for clouds hasn’t. Yesterday we generated 16.5 KWHs and the m-t-d at 181.4 is less than a KWH short of on track. If we can generate even 15 by end of day, it will be on track. How long it’ll stay on track is another matter.

    I saw a fuzzy ball of light above the eastern horizon yesterday evening then the clouds got denser so I saw nothing more until I word up (sinusitis flare) at the point she’d just crossed far enough into the western sky to send a moonbeam to the edge of my bed. I was awake, unfortunately, long enough to watch moonlight move to cover the whole foot of my bed but I did get to sleep after that. So moon sighting on both sides of full and eclipse.

    Late getting up. Still a bit groggy. Slow but at least not stiff. Off to start my boosting day. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for eveybody. {{{Meeses}}}

  10. Good morning, 43 and partly sunny in Bellingham today. I have a rare feeling of energy today so that’s welcome progress. Bri will be here next week so my thoughts are moving to the garden and the projects we will be working on. I’m still considering the patio reset but will start slow by moving a plant (if we can) and adding some paving. This will make more level space and then we can decide what to put there. Small steps are more realistic but I wish we could just do it and be done! Best wishes to all.

  11. Good morning, meeses! Saturday …

    It is 43 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 57. Cloudy skies and rain are in the forecast. It was cold and damp yesterday – the upper Midwest is having a heat wave and we are having a cold spell! I am glad I saw the nearly full moon clearly on the 12th – I have not seen her since.

    I have a few things I need to get done this morning and then I am going to take a trip to Phoenix to catch a Spring Training MLB game. Of course it won’t be sunny and pleasant today but it will be comfortable enough. If you wait for everything to be perfect, you will never leave your house.

    See all y’all later!

  12. Good morning. Extreme fire danger here, so dry and windy. I will look for some wildflowers to photograph today, even in this drought there should be some. I see that the muskrat is going after the Post Office. I don’t know what he has to do to get himself & his minions fired, maybe this will be it?

  13. It’s 55 heading for 59 and overcast today. Yesterday we generated 12.7 KWHs and the m-t-d at 194 is losing ground. And will lose more today.

    Another sinusitis flare overnight. Without the redeeming presence of moonlight in my bedroom. Probably exacerbated by anxiety. I don’t know anyone who isn’t having trouble with that. There probably are some people who aren’t, who are ignorant enough to rejoice at the destruction or rich enough to be making short-term gain from it. But I don’t know any. Anyway, late start so I’d best be about my boosting. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}

  14. Good late Saturday morning, Meese! It’s overcast and 49 F. at the moment. I just returned from the gym, where I sweated mightily. At 2 p.m. there’s a Drama Club meeting, at which I will once again be required to give my backstory as Irene and answer a question or two. I’m disappointed that one of the fiances won’t be there, but I can at least make some choice remarks about how acidulous his character is.

    Yesterday when we came out of rehearsal at 9, the sky was overcast. However, I kept hanging around chatting to a couple of actors and lo! the clouds parted and I saw Her in all Her fullness. Blood Moon or Worm Moon, at least I was able to see her for once.

    The promised Shred Truck did not come today, so all the residents are spitting-teeth mad. We’ve saved up documents for months. No telling when it will arrive, and what do we do with our stuff in the meantime? If I put it out on the porch, perhaps it will get rained on.

    Oh, They are so excited about the “severe weather” tomorrow! Heavy rain, hail, perhaps even a tornado! Duh. We’ll get four drops. Hope we’re home from Elder Son’s house before it starts, if it does at all.

    Wishing all at the Pond a good day.

  15. Good morning, 38 and raining in Bellingham today. Yesterday I made space for the fire pit under the shade canopy so I can use it more easily, small steps but a good start. I wanted to do more today but the rain is cold and wet so it’s better to stay indoors. I have lots to do in my sewing room, just need to find my motivation. As always, my best wishes to all.
