Week-long Welcomings from Moosylvania: March 9th

Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.

Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).

The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.

So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?

NOTE: The comments page will split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page (right before “Leave A Reply”) and use the Pages Tool to view previous pages, shown here with 3 pages of comments available and Page 2 circled.

  1. So yesterday sucked. We all have to be back in the office 5 days a week starting mid-April. I really thought our management would fight for us. I have a tab open for the retirement system, reading up on those steps; and I worked for the City for 5 years so I have something there, emailed that system to ask for info. So here I am in the office; 4 more weeks of this schedule then however long of 5 days until I leave.

  2. Good morning, meeses! Thursday …

It is 52 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 65. Partly cloudy skies are in the forecast. I did not see any stars this morning but I did hear an owl hooing. Last night the nearly full moon was magnificent rising over the mountains during alpenglow time and then bright in the night sky.

I made the mistake of looking at the news headlines yesterday and was disgusted to see that the Democrats in the Senate are willing to hand over more power to the Felon to fk up our economy with his tariffs. Clean short CR without the added powers or we are the chumpiest chumps in the world. The Republicans don’t care if our economy crashes, they will be protected by the oligarchs – this will be 1000 times worse than Bush’s Recession because no one – really, no one – will be working to make things better until 2029. Goddess help us.

I have many things I promised to do today so I need to get to it. I am hoping to get a nap in so that I can stay up to see the lunar eclipse tonight.

    See all y’all later!

  3. It’s 58 heading for 81 and sunny at the moment. Yesterday clouds moved in during the afternoon. We generated 13.1 KWHs and the m-t-d at 164.8 lost a little more ground. It may be possible to catch up today but it’s not likely.

    Sinusitis flare last night so diddly sleep. But it did see, not the moon herself, but a glowing ball of fuzzy light through the cloud cover a little after dark. Groggy, stiff, and slow today. Sigh. Trying to keep my anxiety tamped down. As a rehab guy I used to know always said, “work is the best distraction”. My work is boosting folks. So I’d best get to it. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}

  4. Good gray Thursday morning, Meese! Actually, these overcast skies and cold temperatures seem quite restful. The weather gurus have been going on and on about how “warm” it is—high 50s and windy as hail are “warm”?–nah, but we’ll see.

Used my friend’s recipe for gingerbread this morning. It just came out of the oven and Meese, I’m telling you it smells heavenly! Can’t wait to feed it to my writers a couple of hours from now.

Have celebrated so intensely the last couple of days, I’m plumb wore out. However, the people at my building’s Morning Coffee sang “Happy Birthday” to me yesterday, as did the entire cast of “Crazy for You” after Rehearsal last night. Flowers, cards, and chocolates arrived all day long, so it was wonderful. Elder Son will cook corned beef and cabbage for me on Sunday, and darling DIL will make sure there is a carrot cake for afters.

Keep meaning to tell y’all—on Monday my grandson defended his dissertation and NOW he has a Ph.D! He loves living in the Twin Cities, and is getting out more now that it’s warming up a bit. He already has a steady girlfriend and he’s only been there a few months. With his parents in Massachusetts and sibling in Ohio, he’s much closer than he was in Austin.

Daughter, SIL, and dogs are now holidaying somewhere around Cape May, NJ. It is in NJ, isn’t it? Anyway they just had to go somewhere warmer for a while so the dogs could have a run.

It’s fuh-REEZING! We’ve been having clear skies, so when I come out of the building after rehearsal I see her, nearly full. She looks glorious! Of course I won’t get to see her tonight, very likely, or tomorrow night, but at least I’ve seen something of Her this month.

Oh, I’m so tired! First-world problem, though. Must go boil some water in case someone has a baby!*

Wishing a good day to all at the Pond.

*No, really it’s to put in the thermos. I’m giving my writers the choice of having Ginger-Lemon tea to go with their gingerbread, if they choose.

  5. Good morning, 41 and partly sunny in Bellingham, so nice to see some blue sky. My throbbing tooth is gone but now I’m recovering from the extreme nausea caused by the anesthesia, antibiotic, and pain meds. Just a few more days of meds and then I should be ok. If I can focus I want to find a book and just get lost in a story today because reality is no fun! Best wishes to all.
