Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.
Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).
The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.
So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?
…
NOTE: The comments page will split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page (right before “Leave A Reply”) and use the Pages Tool to view previous pages, shown here with 3 pages of comments available and Page 2 circled.

It’s 52 heading for 79 and sunny at the moment. We’ll see if it stays that way. Yesterday we generated 11.7 KWHs so the m-t-d at 350 is exactly on track (thanks to that wiggle room we gained the other day). We shall see if it stays that way. (I hate jacking around with the new techbro-designed format on my “dashboard”. It not only defaults to a 3-day line graph but I can’t get a month-to-date graph at all.)
It’s my older son’s 54th birthday. My, my how time flies. Or at least just keeps tromping along. (All his sons are in their 20s now.)
Plumber’s visit was $200 – that’s his minimum for showing up. But it’s done and hopefully I will have no more plumbing issues for the next decade. Errands yesterday were credit union, library, co-op, and grocery store. I spent a remarkable amount of money for a remarkably small amount of stuff. Worried about my Social Security of course. It’s my sole income. Anything else comes out of my TIAA retirement savings.
Well, worry doesn’t get anybody boosted. So I’d best be getting about my boosting day. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
Happy birthday to older son! Glad to hear that the plumber’s visit was successful even though the “minimum” certainly can bite if it is a quick fix. They have us over the barrel but it is good that they still show up when we have an issue that needs resolution.
Thank you. The plumber’s a friend of my son’s so he keeps it as low as he can. But he’s recovering from a major operation, just starting to ease back into work, and need the money. I’m grateful his work and that he charges me he minimum. But it’s maddening that it’s something I could have done myself 20 years ago. I no longer have the hand strength.
Good morning, 49 and partly cloudy in Bellingham. The hedge pruning project is done, yay! Monday was so cold and rainy we had to stop, but yesterday the sun was shinning and working together in the garden was a pleasure. I pruned salal while Bri and Marcus worked on the hedge so a lot got done. I’m really tired today but not in pain trouble so I’ll rest this morning and work at my desk this afternoon. I’m doing my best to keep angst controlled but I’m very worried re social security. As always, my best wishes to all.
Thursday Meese. 32 here in Kingston going up to 51.
Puerto Rico
Good morning. In from my walk, we got rain last night and supposed to be more today, yay! The Signal mess and kidnappings of people by non-uniformed secret police are just so terrible — and have me wondering what they’re distracting us from that’s even worse. An awful time but we have to fight on.
I follow an account on BS that posts words, poetry, stuff like that. Thought y’all would like today’s word

Great word! Eluxoroma: “a term for the devotion to positive spiritual growth in the midst of underlying chaos or darkness.”
Good morning, meeses! Thursday …
It is 61 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 86. Partly sunny skies are in the forecast. Yesterday’s clouds helped keep the temperatures down so that is a relief. No word yet on the air conditioner replacement but we have our portable unit now so the front room is bearable. It is still cooling down enough at night to open windows in the bedrooms later in the evening – for now.
I wonder if the Felon announcing a change in election rules (which only impact a federal form that most states don’t use) was meant to ratfk the Wisconsin Supreme Court election which is next week? If people think they have to show their citizenship papers at the polls, that might lower turnout. The Melon and his cronies are spending over $100 million to get their Supreme Court pick, the vile Brad Schimel who began his career as the AG for Governor Scott Walker, elected. The congressional district maps are on the line – there is no way that fair maps come out of a 5 to 4 Republican majority. Grrr.
I woke up early to work on trying to get my new router working and my efforts were thwarted. There is something wrong with the DNS settings on the new router and I can’t use their app to test them because I don’t have any devices that it runs on. Bastids! I really despise Internet Service Providers and cable companies are the worst. I still have the old router so I will use that until I can do some research on the Internets to find out what is going on.
See all y’all later!
Good Thursday morning, Meese. It’s 37 F. outside—ugh—but brilliantly sunny with just a few cirrostratus clouds across the blue. The high in Ashburn today will be 60 F., with “less” wind. Uh huh, uh huh. If it EVER becomes warmer and less windy, I’d like to go for a walk around the campus to see what’s blooming. Usually the forsythia is out long before now.
Rehearsal last night was exhausting. We had a “costume parade” for scenes 6,7, and 8. Adjustments were made to the showgirls’ hats. The men looked quite dazzling, I was glad to see.
The one thing I never thought I’d have to worry about when I retired was the absence of Social Security. I am worried now. Glad I retired in 2006, so I’ve had a fair whack! I’ve heard nothing from the IRS, of course. I wish they’d go ahead with the refund. The state did already.
Enough moaning. This morning I will attend a lecture on “Living and Dying with a Smile on Your Face.” This afternoon I may skip gym, although it wouldn’t be a good idea. Will have to think about it.
Feeling rather disappointed because the subject of a story idea I had changed his mind last night and sent an email this morning saying he didn’t want to be interviewed. OK. Will have to think of a different story idea.
That’s quite enough from me! Still including some on this blog in my morning prayers for health and wellness. Wishing a good day to all at the Pond!
It’s 64 heading for 83 today and party sunny so far. Yesterday we generated 17.67 KWHs and the m-t-d at 367.89 is on track and a bit. So a tad over 33 to reach 400 and 5 days left to do it in. Can’t call it a certainty – nothing in this life is – and the rest of March ranges from mostly cloudy to definitely cloudy, but it looks likely we’ll make it.
Well, it takes a lot of money to do as much evil as this administration has, is, and plans to do. And the Social Security Trust is the largest single chunk of money not already in private hands. Easy to see why they want it. I just seriously hope/pray that they don’t get it.
Off to start my boosting day. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
Good morning. Did my walk. We’re having March birthdays at work, I brought hummus. Looking for any brightness in this hellscape. Watching concert clips on youtube and looking for next historical fiction to check out from the library.
It’s 65 heading for 68 and overcast. It’s supposed to rain shortly but I’ll believe that when it falls from the sky. At the moment it’s dark enough the PV system is in night mode. Yesterday we generated 17.85 KWHs and the m-t-d at 385.48 is on track. Although it’s unlikely to be by end of day.
Yesterday afternoon my best friend came by and we went and got ice cream together. It was warm enough the place was crowded but it was also warm enough we could and did eat ours outside. I always enjoy spending time with her but she’s so very tired. I wish there was anything I could do to help her. But between the legislature-created massive eff up that’s work at the university these days, her passive-aggressive abusing husband, and worry about Social Security & if she’ll be able to retire at all much less in 2-1/2 years as planned. . . well, there’s not much I can do except listen when she wants to vent. And for all that we had a pleasant hour together before she had to head for home and feed the animals.
I hope it clears off or at least if it rains, it stops between noon and 2. I need to go to the library and pick up a couple of books I had on hold that came in yesterday. Meanwhile, I’d best get to my boosting. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody {{{Meeses}}}
Good cloudy Friday morning, Moosekind! “They” are predicting rain for later this evening. Right. In the meantime, it’s 54 F., on its way up to 60-something.
We are totally off-book at Rehearsal tonight. Hope my opposite number doesn’t disappear before Scene 9, as he did on Wednesday. I looked pretty stupid, blowing a kiss to an invisible husband Wednesday night. :)
Anyway, that’s a first-world problem. Added two people to my morning prayer list, both grown-up children of residents. One resident stopped me in the hall to ask for my good wishes or prayers for her youngest son. Do I have a sympathetic face? People are always telling me their life stories. It’s OK with me, though. That is one of the duties of a priestess.
As you can see, I’m repeating myself. I need to get to the nail place for a pedicure. Wishing a good day to all at the Pond, much sympathy for those who have been cruelly thrown out of work (can imagine what they’re going through), and some hope that…Canada will annex US? Might be a good idea.
Blessed be.
Friday Meese. Nice spring day here today.
This is disturbing
Puerto Rico
Oh goddess! Not the Smithsonian! I am so glad I went to Washington DC before all this happened. I feel awful for those who will never know that our rich history included diversity and the contributions of others besides Caucasian Males.
Good afternoon, meeses! Friday …
It is 79 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 82. Mostly sunny skies are in the forecast. My air conditioning replacement is on backorder – fingers crossed that the a/c guy gets it in before new tariffs shut everything down. Everyone is holding their breaths.
I spent the morning setting up computers and now I need to get off my computer and find a comfortable place to sit and watch basketball. I don’t have much interest in the North Carolina v Duke game but I want to see the South Carolina v Maryland one.
See all y’all later!
Saturday Meese. 48 here in Kingston – and raining. My women’s basketball team won yesterday by the skin of their teeth Phew.
Puerto Rico
That was a close game! I was surprised because Maryland has not been playing well lately – they must have upped their game to play South Carolina.
Did you see the score of the Duke v North Carolina game – 47 to 38? It has to be one of the lowest in the history of the Sweet Sixteen.
Good morning, meeses! Saturday …
It is 57 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 77. Mostly sunny skies are in the forecast although it is overcast over the mountains right now. Some areas north and east of us had rain last night. The weather guessers say that we will be cooler this next week with lows in the 40s again and highs in the mid 60s.
I am going to spend the early morning catching up on accounting so that I can close the month and then watch sports on TV. The NCAA Sweet 16 Women’s Basketball matchups finish up today and most of the games are in the morning which suits me. I am definitely not a night owl and the late games are past my bedtime.
See all y’all later!
Good morning. Slept in and will go to kickboxing later — have I mentioned how much it helps my mental health? Naming the uppercut station after the guy ending wfh is a great release. Anyway, happy Saturday to all.
It’s 64 heading for 80 and trying to be sunny. Lots of clouds in the sky but the sun’s sneaking through and the clouds seem to be moving off. Which is good because we only generated 4.85 KWHs yesterday. Still, the m-t-d is 390.4 and we’ve got 3 more production days in March. If we get sunny days we could actually beat the 2016 total of 422.
Hard keep the anxiety at bay but I’m doing my best. Staying busy always helps. So I’d best be about my boosting day. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
